Boredbrain Xcelon SL Mixer!

Well yes that’s true with analog mixers, and those switches could be a set and forget thing, but the filter is different as it is performance tool, maybe at home won’t be an issue for some, but on a large sound system in a club or festival that’s another story, let’s wait for more info from them.

hopefully boredbrain can get the noise floor and pop issues worked out.

Hey Ryan. That is definitely not expected behavior. I thought I was going crazy and ran out to my studio to check if I was! Mine has absolutely no pop with the ON button (only a very very low thud if you crank the master to max), along with the other performance control, the A-B filter selector. I suspect there’s a DC injection problem from the power source or one of your sources, although we have lots of DC blocking circuitry throughout. I’ll work with you ASAP to figure out what’s causing that and get it resolved.

Someone mentioned a noise floor issue? All of our pilot production units tested excellent in that regard so I’m interested to hear more about that too.

It’s also popped for me when I flicked the on off switches for the filters.

@boredbrain
Mine is the same way except no popping from the filter if there is no sound being played through the mixer. Only with sound.
The EQ mid switch makes a really loud pop sound when the EQ is turned all the way counter clockwise and the switch is turned off.

I think all of you that are having issues with the mixer need to tag Boredbrain so they can address the situation on a case by case basis? As Damion mentioned before.

same as well. I have an SSL Big Six as my studio mixer anyways that works great. I guess I will keep using my TX-6 and K-mix for portable mixers until I can sell off the ununused larger ones and look at something like a Jellymix or Xone for live.

What are you referring to when you say noise floor issue? Not the cell phone video I hope…

Yeah I would hope not my cell phone video LOL.

The mixer sounds fantastic to me. Nice and clean with no sound into it.

To reiterate, I love the mixer. It’s fantastic. I do hope the filter pop can be resolved on my unit but even if not I can work around it and it’s a keeper and I’m quite happy.

Thanks for the feedback. Really looking forward to taking delivery.

For that money it shouldn’t be a click IMO

I’m not sure it’s possible to design an analog filter circuit that doesn’t introduce a phase offset?

No, but if iam not mistaken you can build its on and off switch with a zero crossing detection.

The jellymix have no click in the filter

The original xone 92 (and other xone mixers) had a filter pop. The mk2 92 and xone 96 are without filter pop.

There’s no way to do a zero crossing detection/switching in analog afaik. The solution would require multiple vca circuits to handle a crossfade and there are already a ton of vca’s in the circuit per channel. You have to draw the line somewhere between features and cost

Well somehow both Intellijel and Allen & Heat managed this, we just need to wait for more info from Boredbrain.

That’s the point.
