The jellymix I think is kind of intentionally not that sort of mixer but the Xcelon SL does have the channel outs so you can use an audio interface. I plan to use it with a 16rig and a Scarlett 18i20 but Boredbrain will also be releasing a 16 input ADAT module I believe.
Hoping someone updates the thread when they get a shipping notication
No thanks. You add USB and thats a whole new set of complications. Just use the direct outs and now you can request the Excelon to be post fader when you buy one.
understand but given the high price tag one would expect more features like the competition has.
What competition? There is nothing out there similar to these 2 mixers.
SSL Big Six
Well I paid on day one of pre order so … but I don’t believe the 21st was a hard date might be a few more days but hoping we get some notifications going by the end of this week at the latest. ![]()
That’s not a performance mixer at its core. The core functionality of Jellymix and excelon is performance. Not the same.
ok I stand corrected however the A&H Xone mixers are performance mixers that also have audio interface and similar features.
But no compressor right?
All mixers are an exercise in feature selection. It appears plenty are happy with the selections made here, especially given the fact that an interface inflates the price by quite a bit and goes out of the core competency of birdbrain.
I have a hybrid DJ / production setup and after thinking about this long and hard plan to get the Xcelon SL to combine with my Xone:96 and finally fill my mixer void.
This is how I want to set it up: Xone channels 1 to 4 are used for DJ (2x vinyl, 2x rekordbox) and the Xcelon A and B outs go to Xone in A & B (which have EQ, filter & FX send), and the Xcelon master to Xone C (volume only). Synths, drum computers and samplers are routed to the Xcelon A (drum bus) or B (synth bus) so they can be controlled and processed separately, also on the Xone. Xcelon Master is for things I don’t want processed (FX returns, aux in). One doubt I have is to put the Xcelon A & B on the main Xone channels, as the crossfader only works on inputs 1 - 4 and crossfading between drums & melody buses will be nice.
This gives me 2 effect loops on the Xcelon, plus 2 on Xone, not counting additional options (inserting FX on Xcelon A & B, master insert & Cue outs on the Xone). And with the Signex Arc32 I recently got I can dynamically route FX in any order and assign them.
The two mixers combined won’t take up much more space than a 10U rack unit. And I can take a subset of my setup and move it without too much hassle. The Xone is a sound card too but alas not on the A & B inputs but with send 1 & 2 to USB that means practically limited to recording 2 stereo channels at a time. Or eventually I could get a sound card to hook up to the Xcelon pre-outs.
Looking forward to hearing some real world experiences. I didn’t pre-order but keeping a keen eye on EU stores to see if they get any in stock in the coming weeks.
In terms of channel count the closest is Xone 96. Which is a bit more expensive then the Xcelon. Of course you get audio interface but you lose compressor and the small footprint
There is a few things to unpack here: Firstly, A&H Xone mixers traditionally did not have audio interfaces and many still don’t. Secondly, the Xone mixers are DJ mixers and therefore have a very different feature set than the Xcelon SL – and are also much bigger in terms of size.
agree and it comes down to trade offs. For me, I have small audio interfaces that are super portable so a deal on the Jellymix or Excelon would work. The compressor is a powerful feature as well as EQ.
Shipping starts this Friday due to waiting on the Decksavers from Decksaver that are included in the promotion for the first orders.
Any idea if that is for direct orders only? Or also for international orders?
I’m so excited!
Looks like direct orders only as the decksaver offer was only available for direct orders.
I ordered on day one so it should ship Friday.
Do local stores count as direct orders?
I think direct means directly from the Boredbrain website.
