Behringer RD-9

The pandemic is making it more difficult to fix the clap.

Behringer are the supply chain.

They don’t manufacture all their components.
Uli Behringer wrote multiple times how they’re able to buy huge amounts of parts and thus get them for a much better price than companies that cannot afford to buy such large amounts.

For Cool Audio chips, yes! But they do not fabricate absolutely everything from the sand and earth

Okaaay, maybe it was a slight exaggeration.

Yup, some of the latest OS updates have cured many of the original niggles and now the RD 8 is much more usable and stable. Looks like some of those updates came from the community too with B taking on folks to polish the OS. I think Jamie Munro has done a lot of the work on it? Either way bravo to B and the community for getting it sorted eventually.

I’m the last one to defend B, but in their defense, this global chip shortage has also been pretty far reaching. The Korg Modwave, for instance, is practically vaporware, still. And that’s good ole, reliable, “announce on monday, ship on Tuesday” Korg, for crying out loud.

Surely it’s rippling out in some way for B, as well.

I’m hoping around summer 2021 then

for sure! this problem won’t just magically disappear.
Meanwhile, that’s over a year to make a lot of music with 909 samples in an OT, or a TR-6S/8S

I was going to buy another TR8s the other day but opted to wait for the RD-9. I had the TR8s when it first came out, pretty cool machine but sold it it to put toward an MC707 sold that as well bought it again and sold it again. I like drum machines with individual outs (rd8-rd9) hence I’ll wait. Got a Drumstation sounds great but love the look and potential of having both the RD-8 and RD-9 for live performance. Got enough mixer inputs (adat and analog expansion) on my new Yamaha 01v96i to take care of everything here now.

PS

I’m a sucker for drum machines

or if you’ve got soldering skills the RE-909 looks incredible and sounds perfect. “it’s not a clone it’s a replica.”

How much? Lottery win?

haha it’s not B level cheap but it’s not the $7k real ones go for. I think you can do a build for well under $1k

I absolutely do not need an RD-9 but I will absolutely be buying one!
