Behringer RD-6 606 clone

Well, for example the Volca beat, Uno Drum, Elektron Model Cykles and so on. No individual outputs… Ok these are not 606 clones maybe but they would defenitly benefit from separate outs dont you think?

For me, a model cycles owner, just two stereo output pairs would be enough. With the option to route each machine to either output. That way I can treat drums separately from synth tracks. But I realise I’m going off topic here.

I’m definitely interested in the rd6 but will wait to get one 2nd hand.

Personally, I think this sounds pretty banging. There’s a few differences but they’re subtle enough that it won’t be distracting in a mix.
Adding that clap was a pretty smart move, it sounds goooooood.
I just bought a Cycles, so not getting this yet, but it’s definitely on the list (along with about 700 other drum machines).

EDIT: Sorry, loglord, wasn’t meant as a reply to you, just a general comment, must have hit the wrong reply thingy.

2 stereo outs? Is there reallly 2? Or do U mean 1 stereo out with 2 mono outs?

Cycles just has L and R out. What I meant was that if it had another L and R out that would be enough for me. The rd6 having individual outs is a good selling point.

Ahh sorry, i misunderstod.

Thomann ship in beautifully boxed items! Gota buy something from them! I :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Its cool they do, i hope that will make others rethink their marketing strategies.

Individual outputs on simple analog machines aren‘t hard to implement, though.
Modding a 606 with individual outs is simple.
It‘s more work on digital and hybrid instruments (firmware, UI, hardware ressources and general concept).

Mine arrived today from Thomann ( I’m in uk , )

It’s fine , feels some as td-3 ( plastic , light )
It sounds fine.
Cymbal seems louder than clap ( they share same volume encoder ).

The comparison shows the original has much more punch on kick and snare, slightly shorter snare on original too, toms sound a bit duller on Behringer and different tuning, cymbal sounded like they have some of the frequencies of the square waves off, which probably explains in part why the hats don’t sound right too.

All that said, I think the Behringer sounds ok, I think the Cyclone TT-606 betters it on BD, Toms and Hats/Cymbals, the RD has better clap and snare than the TT though IMHO.

So…Maffez already put together a few more mods.
From the demos I’ve heard really cool!

I wouldn’t say they’ve skimped…adding more functionality like CC control mean they’d be offering an entirely different product, a analogue/digital hybrid like all other CC controllable analogues with a micro scanning pots and switches feeding a multiplexed DAC or similar? As it is they’ve stayed true to the originals

I suppose there’s an argument as to whether they should have taken a different route but I think that’s ones been thrashed out already:see_no_evil::joy:

I’m happy we got the MIDI functionality we did get TBH. Unless we’re talking about the RD8…:see_no_evil::see_no_evil:

I think his mods to the HH isound really good

This is a clone / tweaked version of 606
If I wanted cc I’d grab Volca/ uno / tr8 /tt606 etc etc etc etc or the many sample packs I’ve bought and barely used and dump them into digitakt / sampler etc.

Lots of options exist around this price range and up.

Of course, and that’s why my comment was in response to a comment about Behringer’s general product offerings, and was not TR-606/RD-6 exclusive.

I thought it was clear by the use of the word
“products”.

Context matters.

just received mine, really loving it so far.

pros

  • closest clone I’ve heard so far, Bassbot and dramatix don’t come close imo
  • clap is absolutly wonderful
  • clap and cymbal have independent lanes, wasn’t;t expecting this
  • distortion is great, very useful. as is the tone knob, acts like a filter.
  • a real pleasure to play, both of my old 606’s had sticky buttons issues, it feels so nice to sequence without any interruptions.
  • individual outs
  • price !

cons

  • hats haven’t aged
  • clap and cymbal volume are seriously mismatched, won’t use them at the same time unless I use a compressor.
  • pattern clear mode not working?
  • wish sequencer had been updated to include last step per track

I still need to see how this syncs, hopefully it will be tight.
also curious about the trig out, will adjusting the PPQ give me external clock division ?

I can’t get pattern clear to work on individual tracks, can anyone else confirm this is working? on my old 606, it worked my holding the pattern clear button on the track you wanted to erase and it would scrub them out while in write mode.

Only while pattern is running, RD-6 doesn’t have this?

that’s what I was expecting it to do, but no cigar thus far. can anyone confirm if mine is faulty or perhaps it awaiting a firmware update? I can’t find any manual to check if it works another way.
