Behringer RD-6 606 clone

The TR-606 sold new for £199,

As with comparing anything older than 20 years, inflation is a big consideration. £199 ain’t what it used to be.

But I take your point.
These should last.

I think the hats and cymbal don’t sound quite right, a bit too thin and not quite as driven, still probably/possibly the closest on a clone yet.

Thing is though the 606 is infamous for its hats, so I’d kind of expected them to get them closer.

Maybe someone will mod it to sound closer.

I don’t need it, and I wouldn’t buy a Behringer product personally, but I think it is probably their best clone to date as far as getting the overall sound, it does sound quite good, much better than the RD-8 IMHO.

The Dinsync RE-606 will probably be the one to get if you want 100% authentic sound, but through gritted teeth I’d say Behringer did a pretty good job on this, soundwise.

The TT-606 is still for me a better option, I like the tuning and CC control it offers, plus I have a TR-606 as well.

I think if rd-6 was priced near £700 people would just laugh at it.

If I still had a 20 yr old expensive high end laptop it would be worth zero unless the hard drive / ram could be resold.

And they could be near £120 2nd hand by Xmas.

nah, Acidlab Dramatix nailed it.

It’s like being against the salmon colored polo shirt your wife bought you, but when you toss it on your like “hey, this looks kinda good on me.”

Personally, I’m impressed with the sound but would like to wait for some reviews. Wonder if there are any trimpots inside to adjust for the sound character

agreed. pry it from my cold, dead hands.

just buying this and mod it to a soma level, that’s my dream

I read somewhere that there is only one trimpot, to adjust the noise generator (which is only used on snare and toms). The same as on the original.

Yep, that trimmer also makes the snare snappier, longer decay more highs

Also check this page for mods and stuff (more coming soon):

If only it would have midi out… Everytime I hear it, i like the al drumatix much more than my tanzbär.
No midi (clock start stop for simple jamming…)made me choose the tanzbär some years ago, which I dont use much, but mostly because its frequencies seem dangerous to use with headphones for me.

yeah I think Acidlab over-estimated the number of people who would use the DIN Sync out, versus MIDI out. it’s not the end of the world though. it just can’t be the master clock. I wouldn’t not choose a box I love the sound of just for that.

B have made some good decisions in that regard. midi thru would be a welcome addition to the Drumatix. the RD-6 sounds pretty good overall. in the ball park, for sure. not epically bad like the RD-9 demos I’ve heard.

I agree and also regret it often.
Adding erica fusionbox, my somehow lame tanzbär turns to a ultra noisy lofi (but expensive ) drummachine with some kind of plock sequencer. that kept me from selling. (And the boring 606 on tr8) But I should you are right.

Btw i just saw beat magazine and maybe others offer the 606 part of audio realism drum machine plug in. maybe ill try that with a mouse and a tear in my eyes later

Many tears if your screen resolution is anything above standard HD.
Nithonat has needed a resolution update that never came for the last 7 years.

I’d you have Ableton, using this M4L control script makes it much more enjoyable to tweak.

Thanks a lot. Service at its fastest and best.
No, im with bitwig, just a mouse and sometimes bassstation, still no audiointerface, and never finish something, just jamming somtimes.
I couldnt decide yet if and what controller, one private guy is doing all the script work there. Or switch to ableton…

Yes theoretically im on a macbook pro for music.
Fortunately where im now i have a old hp i got for free with a matte screen that i absolutely love. :+1:

Im not shure if what you described is the same company or they made a collaboration.
If i remember d16 is from poland or similar, audiorealism from sweden, they offer the stripped down 606 version of their drum machine.
I saw it in current german beat magazine, I am swiss btw
Thanks a lot greetings over the ocean

Edit:
Yes, seems two different plug ins.

I tried the audio realism now, hm ok, no, its nice and free thanks to all the developers and programers.
Having more fun with another beat download:
A strange little plug in about the russian RMIF Elsita drum machine
If people here need more obscure plug ins or
HIHAT samples…

they both sound fine to me.
i dont have the tr606 but i do have loads of sample packs and plugins.

td-6 is on its way, its cheap and will be fine.
i may use it more than rd8… although lately ive been using ableton and stuff that comes with it and have been very happy with those too.

I dont understand why Behringer is, more or less. The only one that equips their stuff with individual outs? Its a great addition. Wish that would be standard these days.

They save money by putting the most basic MIDI functionality in their products.
Frees up money for things like individual outputs that look good on a spec sheet and sells units, but is anemic, under the hood.

As for competitors,
I can’t find a 606 clone with less than 4 outputs, so not sure who you are referring to.
