Imo if there is an update in the works, it’s gonna be a substantial one as a final update. I used to want a second LFO too and still miss it, but with resampling I can workaround it when designing drums.
It’s probably abandonware at this point. Not only new features, there are a lot of weird behaviours that impair the ability to use the device as a live improvisational tool.
For example, if you do a simple kick snare pattern, and then press and keep pressed func+:page (if I remember well) so to extend the pattern to 32, 48, 64 and 16 step again in a fast cycle, you’ll notice sometimes the pattern skips beats. (This is a stress test for extending/shrinking pattern).
Like it could do 17 steps and go back to 1st step. This basically means that if you use it synchronised with another device, and you want to extend the pattern to 64 steps and then shrink it back to 16, you can easily lose sync.
This is one of the myriads of inconsistencies that are present and will never be fixed.
They said before they want an update but they have to prioritize. I guess there’s not enough AR’s sold to make it a priority for them.
That said… its been a while since there was a firmware update on any machine right? Maybe theyre making something new…
I kind of imagined a lot of people were buying them anyway, so there was no need to incentivize them to buy them with an update
A simple 3 band eq would make AR the best drum machine ever
This is the same for their entire lineup (or at least on the DT, DN, OT, and AR). It’s the same thing when changing pattern length. It behaves like an analog sequencer instead of a digital one. You have to execute the changes perfectly on beat to not screw it up. Some might call this a feature, I disagree because if you want things “off”, you can always do that intentionally via step rotation.
Edit: I made a pretty detailed post about this last year Elektron Sequencers Lose the "1"
do you mean on the main out or per track? both options would be nice, heck, even 2 band eq per track would be nice but I’m not sure how it would be possible…
I’ve read your thread, yes it’s partly the same thing. You talk about polymeters and odd signature and I’ll not adventure there, cause the topic would be much more complex, but it puzzles me that on the basic cycle with 16, 32, 48 and 64 steps this happens, you don’t even go through the steps in between. I’m puzzled how this was not stress tested by elektron on day 1, and my conclusion is that these were not thought as improvisational devices from start.
I think that there are two categories of usage for this machines. Originally they were compositional tools, and by accident they had a couple of features that someone started to use live as improvisational elements. But they are far from being the live improvisational tools that someone advertise they are.
I just scratched the surface there, cause for example when you cycle from 64 to 16 steps, the pattern memory stays dirty (on steps 17 to 64), which is something you could or couldn’t want. You would want then a way to clear the pages, copy paste them etc. And this is just considering pages with 16 steps, the very basic case.
so…
CAN WE PLEASE GET FUCKING POLY MODE FOR RYTM MK2 SO WE CAN PLAY SOME FUCKING CHORDS WITH THE FUCKING SYNTH COZ IT SOUNDS FUCKING ACE???
Just get a f***ing MIDI processor, it’s a f***ing drum machine
true true - its capable of great mono synth sounds, really soulful, so I want that in polyphony…is that so wrong? its not like I’m asking for the complete digitakt sample engine in there…
shame on you
At what point do we accept that the Rtym and A4 have seen all the updates they are going to get?
February
when mk3 is out
Yeah, I don’t think we’re gonna get a MkIII. Elektron can only count to 2.
when i get fucking polyphony on rytm dvco…
And I get the fvcking gain reduction meter on rytm compressor:)
Bitsnbobs,
Chill. The Rytm was never meant to be a traditional mono synth, let alone a poly synth. The synth they added even isn’t the most stable in terms of tuning. It will never have a poly mode
Lol some of us spent more than that on the black MKII’s
