Totally fair point, but Ableton isn’t the 7th largest economy in the world like Apple.
yeah, pretty sure you could do exactly that in an unlimited DAW.
If you had the Typhoon going into one of the Elektron inputs they’d all come through Overbridge as 13 separate track
but you can’t in Ableton Lite, cos it only allows you 8 tracks.
Cool and all, just wish they allowed a third pop out window for that mixer section, or that sample editing window.
Meld and Roar looks pretty Elektron inspired. Roar is almost like an Analog Heat and seems to sound pretty good. Meld has Machines but calls them Engines. But they are cool.
Everything @Obelisk said…
I’ve tried responding a few times, and it’s hard to explain. Roar is pretty sick. Hope you try it soon to see for yourself.
It’s extremely flexible especially when using expanded views. Using it on a laptop is kinda dreamy.
AH, I’ll likely use more hands on without the computer but as much as I love Roar, I’m not selling AH.
This isn’t an exact quote but at the end of the SonicState video, the rep says something to the effect of “the native devices like roar and meld are coming to push, but he knows of no plans to bring the max devices or midi tools to push.”
It’s been 3 years since Live 11 came out. If they are on a 3 year cadence (10 to 11 was also 3 years) this isn’t bad… Suite upgrade 11 to 12 is $183USD - same exact 20% off early-order price as it was for 10 to 11. Basically, if you order early and get the 20% off, the maintenance plan for suite costs $61/year these days, which is dang cheap once you get in the ecosystem.
(Live 9 to 10 was 5 years, so YMMV - 9 is when I jumped in)
ok fair enough.
i have typhon going into Digitone & that goes into Digitakt.
but my question was about Live Intro, which has 16 tracks it says?
so that should work to record all tracks?
Pure speculation:
Releasing new hardware products, dealing with some QC issues, and managing the end-to-end customer service alone, completely without distribution partners for the first time. This puts an insane strain on a company’s cash flow.
Could it be that the only way out of that is to pre-announce Live 12 in a shorter-than-usual release cycle to generate fresh cash and free up tied capital from the presumably very expensive supply chain?
Could it be that they weren’t originally thinking that this would be Live 12 but rather 11.x, and that they’re now quickly pushing to market those features that are furthest developed, with the understanding that there’s more to come down the line?
Could it be that the Push team is largely separated from the Live team and that their top priorities now are dealing with the QC issues (like calibrating those pads maybe) and other feature parity work that are more important than introducing novel midi generation features?
not really, iirc the same announcement / discount plan was with Live 11 when no new Push was in sight

Interesting Midi updates! That Meld synth sounds pretty brittle/crappy, in the demos anyway. Roar and the updated Granulator III look promising.
^ This. ^
Reason enough to update…
This is being released on the same 3 year cycle as 10 to 11. Beta in November - release in Jan/Feb. I think Live 9 was the only exceptionally long lived release.
AHFX is a dream for live stuff, I’m using it for an ambient gig this weekend, and I’m mainly doing simple playback as a lot of my stuff is just processed field recordings anyhow. It’s really fun to have that muscle memory and dial in a couple settings at the same time, like using a drive and high EQ to feel for the bite/sweet spot, which honestly, just isn’t the same in software, unless you’ve got a dedicated controller for it. Then I perform the FX and tone of my soundscape by feel. It wouldn’t be the same if I loaded roar onto my push 3 and did it that way. But I agree, it does feel luxury now, but only in the same way I might bounce sound out through some analog hardware processing like a culture vulture.
Yeah my knee jerk reaction was “damn this is way too soon” but nope. It’ll probably not fully release until janurary or February which puts it at exactly 3 years since 11.
Time flies for sure. It does definitely feel like it’s been just a year since 11 came out.
ha, yes, I should learn to read.
Intro should be fine I think
L12 has been a work in progress for a long time.
Push 3 was a multi-year project - per different interviews.
As for features to come and the release cycle…
it’s been 3 years since 11, and it was 3 years between 10 and 11.
Ableton has a history of releasing additional major features at different times. They’re also very focused on stability since Live 8 happened.
Digitakt: 1 midi + 8 individual + 1 main = 10
Digitone: 1 midi + 4 individual + 1 main = 6
that’s 16 already
for typhon you can use ext in from either DT/DN for audio and sequence from one of the digis but that will cost you additional audio track in Live, so you’re on 17 which is more then Intro has.
so, either you give up a track from DT/DN or get the Standard
if you don’t use the DT/DN fx you can ditch the mains, that way you’d have enough tracks
or, you can give up some individual tracks, use only necessary ones and record main outs for the rest of them.
you do if you want the built in fx, you don’t if you don’t use them.
it appears I still can’t read, sorry.
CDM article claims they are set up for Push but appears as though all the new midi tools aren’t even in the current build.
