Ableton Lite doesn’t do VSTs/external instrument either, so no overbridge.
in the original question @Sir_John_Fallustiff talks about Intro not Lite, Intro has full VST/AU support
Whoopsie! Yeah ok then.
ok, thx for this clear response !!
Willing to sacrifice the main outputs and add effects later on ableton master…
I have the soundtoys bundle and more vst’s…
The question I have here is whether Logic will implement a pricing upgrade for 11. The latest 10.8 follows their usual stance of no paid upgrades in a numbered version. But on the one hand dropping the X and calling it Logic Pro suggests it’s a one-time cost. Yet they could potentially do Logic 11 as an all new version, or even move to the subscription model like the iPad app. I also rememeber reading that 8-9 was a paid upgrade for most users (but someone may correct me on that.) So while they are moving in what looks like a very positive direction - there’s no guarantee that it will be plain sailing on their side either. I’ve heard some people say Logic 10.8 is an unusually good update…
Live 12 is not out yet, maybe for this good reason.
Looking at the updates list, it looks like a fair bit of stuff has keyboard shortcuts, and some of them can be latched for temporary viewing which could be useful.
so does lite (now at least)
I have overbridge working in it in front of me right now.
I wonder how the new ROAR FX compares to Analog Heat.
I wonder how the new Roar compares to Analog Heat.
Instant pre-order for me… Love Ableton, have an emotional connection to the space and how it allows my creativity to come to life…
I like all the new improvements, probably most excited by the new layout functionality… Wonder why they released Drift by itself when they must have been working on 12, why wouldn’t they wait to give the release a new instrument? Can’t wait.
Dude going into a Ted Talk at the end there.
Man I wish one day they’ll allow you to pop the clip edit and mixer screens out so you can have them on a third screen. That’s really all I’ve wanted for a little while now. The new midi stuff is cool though.
Looks like with between these 2 videos they’ve added some of the features of Atlas & XO in an Ableton-ish way…
Yeah I think all the plugins should be able to pop out. I know that’s not the Ableton way, but I think it would be good to have the option.
You can also just use ‘Utility’ to set things to Mono. Just save an audio track with ‘Utility’ on it as the default and it’s there every time you create an audio track. It’s such a useful tool to have on a track by default.
true, but he said:
so I just was providing an alternative to Utility
btw @d4ydream , I’m not that into technical details, but there’s a difference between using Utility and Stereo Pan centering.
if you click Mono on Utility, your volume won’t change, but if you do Stereo Pan centering you’ll see ~3db boost, as in sum of two tracks, so I’m not sure why, maybe Utility automatically compensates or maybe it just does mid/side processing like removing the side, but they are different methods.
They did. It’s called Meld.
The new Midi tools seem to be inspired by the Pyramid Midi fx (live quantizing, etc), which is a very good thing. Its a shame these arent automatable.
Wondering too if this update leaves the Push2 behind.
I will update, mostly for the workflow improvements.
I wonder if they’re similar to the ‘Players’ in Reason. If a person had Reason 12 (or is it 11?), they could use those in the Rack VST:
https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/browse/?category=note-player&developer=Reason+Studios
I think the reason they aren’t automatable is that they aren’t non-destructive. From what I can tell from the videos so far, they’re temporarily non-destructive while you’re editing them, but once you change your selection, you commit the changes.
While slightly disappointing, it’s still a big step forward for the Ableton piano roll, and it seems to leave the door open for a non-destructive version in the future.
