Agreed on browsing. Maybe I’m missing something but scrolling to the end of a preset folder is a pain in the tits!
I’d just love that midi stuff in P3S. It’d take things to the next level for sure.

Just got the email saying this.
now that the official date is out, you think it’s ok to start saving projects as 12 and hope they’d work later on or stick to 11 until official release?
oh… were we not supposed to do that
Why not both, just in case, until a hotfix and the reviews come in…
(if thats possible… I dont know if you can save as 12 or have to open the project in 12…)full disclosure… Ive never open Ableton in my life even though I got it 3 years ago… Im just waiting till 12 to learn it for the MIDI transform tools… (I said it before… one trick pony I be)
12b has been stable enough for me that I’ve been going ahead and using it for some new productions in lieu of 11.
Your appetite for such a risk may vary from mine.
I’ve recorded some stuff in 12 and when hitting the save started wondering if for some unknown reason the beta projects would be incomplete with the stable release later on, first time doing beta so I have no idea how it worked in previous versions…
yeah it’s pretty stable for me too, been using it for over a week and it’s pretty smooth transition, just couldn’t stop thinking about beta/stable compatibility… oh well, release is soon enough so will recreate the project if won’t work for some reason
At the moment I started one in 12 just to play with the MIDI tools. But in terms of updating everything including tags etc, I’m gonna hang on until the official release is out.
Meantime it’s as good a chance as any to get any current 11 projects into stems. I’d be happy to move audio into 12, finish those and then start working in 12 full time. With live projects with midi and plugins I’d rather hang for the official release since it’s so close.
As a side note I have noticed 11 behaving slightly differently with the beta installed. For example there have been one or two instruments in packs go missing and the user library taking longer to reflect updates. Not a problem or a showstopper but having the 2 installed has seemingly introduced a bit of instability. Looking forward to slimming back down to 1 version.
You’re overthinking this Live 11 projects will open fine in Live 12 and Live 12 Beta projects will also work with Live 12.
11 and beta proyectsof course will work on the 12. Always is the same 9 to 10, 10 to 11…I’m on the betas since the 7 and always no problems from one to another version.
Alright, after a little windfall in cash, I just now decided to go for the discounted upgrade from Standard to Suite before 12 officially drops on March 5th.
Like someone else said here, it’s … a lot.
I think it will be totally worth it for getting ALL the things.
Whoa. Not only did a couple dozen additional packs open up for direct download from within Live, but a ton of additional freebies opened up on the “Packs” page of the site for download. In going through all of the available packs on the site, all while cross referencing the packs I already either had installed or had available for download in the Live UI, there were plenty of additional packs that had either opened up for free DL, or I had perhaps not even seen before as an option before the upgrade. Part of that I’m sure is the Max for Live part of Suite, but still …
The additional instruments, effects and core content alone was worth the $255 upgrade price, but throw in Max for Live and the insane amount of additional pack content … good grief!
Now I have to be careful not to lose productivity due to paralysis of choice problems with all of these new goodies. focus, man … FOCUS!
Max for Live is honestly kinda worth the price of admission alone once you get into it, for techno at least. So many awesome sequencers and effects and all the amazing Fors stuff. Plus all the Ableton devices are really amazing, they’re 95% all I use these days.
I noticed last year that they did this on and off (for example the old Big Three pack randomly became available.) but this is a great shout. I’ll take a look later but I general it’s worth jumping on these as they can flip them back off again sometimes. Hopefully it’s permanent.
Talking of packs- the new ‘Lost and Found’ pack just added to beta
anyone has a method to quickly extract samples from the packs? I can’t find a way to decompress a pack properly, the samples are not playing no matter what I do, so far only can drag into drum rack and export from there but it’s exhausting process as it’s not saving the sample names properly
I received that email this morning
