303 addiction

I am in!

Two X0xb0b0xes (plus reverb and delay) and a Nava -
Just so much fun to work with those old and almost archaic sequencers.

That being said: I use my X0xb0xes much more than my RE-303 - as programming is FAR easier.

thanks a lot

I like that no one has mentioned the Avalon one yet, I don’t know much about it but it seems a bit overpriced nowadays. but then again I don’t know much about it and can someone tell me why it’s really worth it, after all I’m the first one who spends crazy amounts of money on things I like

It’s not worth it, the price is super high right now because it has been discontinued.

I compared all of my 303 clones today with the same pattern and wanted to share my thoughts on which are the best

1 - x0xb0x / TT-303 - To my surprise, apart from a slightly different cutoff offset, these two sound pretty much identical. The TT-303 had a slightly higher range on the cutoff but you can match the sound perfectly using the knobs. I’m sure I could adjust the trimmer to match them perfectly but I quite like having a wider range covered between the two. They both have all the rubbery goodness and the accent barks like the original TB-303.

2 - T-8 - This surprised me. It doesn’t sound quite as authentic as the x0xb0x or TT-303 but it’s really not far behind. They’ve obviously updated the emulation since the TB-3/TB-03 and the accent is much improved.

3 - TD-3 - Honestly, it sounds nothing like a TB-303 to my ears. It sounds good though, just not that authentic to the original. It also seems to sound like it’s whistling at certain settings.

4 - TB-03 - This is definitely the worst sounding of the bunch. It has a weird tone that sounds bad in my opinion. The accent sounds wrong.

I’m genuinely confused how acidvoice has ranked the TB-03 and TD-3 above the TT-303. Maybe they had a dodgy unit as mine sounds every bit as good as the x0xb0x which they ranked second.

Did you compare both saw and square waveforms?

Yes - both the x0xb0x and TT-303 sound identical to me with both waveforms. I could do a little video comparison between the two if anyone was interested.

I had an Avalon with sem cartridge and sold it , spent the money on a few other things , I had other 303 things .
The sequencer was nice , though it did occasionally lock up
It had midi cc for filter and trigger an envelope
Build quality was good , it felt the same as a nord rack - similar buttons and quite firm encoders .

Considering how much they cost - you can buy many other synths plus a td3 … which is what I did
Customer service was basically zero , it’s one guy .

The new 777 was teased on Instagram last week.
Looks so cool! Guess we’ll need more demos… but I’m super interested

There’s a td3 on gumtree for Ā£40 second hand.
I think that says a lot about the available options for a decent sounding clone and having hundreds of £££ left over

other cheap clones are also around if you don’t like B , but let’s not go there in this thread.

The Donner B-1 sounds pretty good. Ugly though

Hi! Does the T-8 have distortion for the 303 part? The kick - as seen in one youtube video - has an awesome amount of distortion, so I wonder if that extends to the 303.

They are selling them direct from Donner for £70 delivered (in the UK)
I just got one today! I can put up with the looks- pretty well built TBH, sounds good- nice filter, saturation and delay, easy to program, no complainants at all!

It has overdrive for all parts

I prefer it to my T8.

It’s one of the most fun hardware boxes I’ve tried.

Not really sure they compete, the B1 is an analogue synth with sequencer (303) and the T8 is a digital drum machine!

I was referring to the 303 part of the T8. I don’t tend to use it for drums as I have a Drumbrute Impact and a Polyend Tracker which are way better for drums.

Ah, I had no idea it had a 303 sound in it! Still, the B1 is worth checking for 70 quid (assuming sale still on) as its fully analogue including the delay and saturation and a surprisingly interesting live performance sequencer…I have been making lines and sampling all day as I also have a tracker (mini) and will be sticking them on the tracker do slice and add drums later!

How did you get it for that price? I’m seeing Ā£99 here, with a 5% discount code EA5.

EDIT: There’s a 30% discount code: CE30
