Absolutely, it’s awesome! My “request” in the survey had to do only with colours. There are just too many I feel. 2 would be enough to further the overall simplicity, at least in my very humble opinion
ps. I’ve “requested” the option, not the B/W tyranny. Option as in choosing between the two colourways as one pleases
I thought I would be keen to sell my blackbox after finally getting a digittakt. Now that I have both I realize they complement each other nicely so probably keeping the blackbox. It’s a beautiful piece of gear and does so many things very well.
The Blackbox is the utility knife of my setup. The multi-sampling alone (and Jürgen Moßgraber’s amazing ConvertWithMoss software tool) has made my live setup so much easier. My only wish that I put in the survey is that we could more easily work with multi-sample patches instead of the convoluted import workaround.
I had the same experience with mine. I had it on a list of gear I’d potentially get rid of in one of the downsizing threads whilst it was up on Reverb at a to-sell price. Then someone here questioned me on why I’d sell it and I decided to give it another chance and took the listing down. Turns out someone was very close to buying it and reached out asking why I took the ad down!
Lately I’ve used mine more than my Octatrack. It’s quite approachable and doesn’t command too much attention left out on the desk. And its limitations force me to think a bit more about musical concerns that are easier to avoid with other machines that let you run wild with sound design.
Hey Chris, thanks again for that beauty
I haven’t been able to find the detail I’m interested in in the manual. Can someone enlighten me?
- Are there any limitations regarding polyphony or quantisation when recording MIDI in? I much prefer playing in longer phrases, with human timing and lots of notes, rather than step sequencing. It’s my biggest problem with the Octatrack. Could I get my Terry Riley on with this and have useable MIDI recordings?
- is it awkward to change tempo on the fly? Assume I only have a second to use my hands in between sections of a song.
thanks
A post was merged into an existing topic: 1010music Bento
Is anyone else hoping that the overdrive & ModFX parts of the new Bento get ported over to the BB? What do we think the likelihood of that is? I know that they said that the BB is not finished in terms of its development and that they said that they often port features from newer devices to older ones (e.g. the tangerine’s sample limit to the BB).
I feel like that’s one key thing that’s missing from the BB that would make it so much more of a self-contained workstation… Yes, I know I can use pedals and whatnot but then I have to have extra devices/cables/etc. and sometimes I just want to use a small, single thing on its own…
I have given up on 1010music in general. While I do like my BB, I have no faith in any logical updates or upgrades or bug fixes for the BB.
I won’t be surprised either way, I just don’t care. 3 years from now if they are still a company and the Bento becomes something more I might get one used. Probably not though.
My BlackBox could disappear today and my music making would be wholly unaffected. I do still like its size and form factor. It’s neato.
Yes that would be very cool. Well actually I’d prefer if they would add the overdrive and modfx to the bluebox, but it sounds like they consider the bluebox to be in a good state (which I agree with).
I agree. It’s a bit of shame that 1010music didn’t stick to the form factor of the blue/black boxes. They’re compact but not fiddly, with a good ratio of knobs, buttons and screen, without having the feeling that it’s an ipad with buttons.
The first two nanoboxes seemed like a good/logical addition to their catalogue, but I could not deal with the small size. I think the razzmataz could have benefited from a larger form factor and the features of the tangerine could have been reserved for an MKII of the blackbox. Then make bluebox MKII with more & updated FX, macro controls or scenes and we’re there
What happened that caused the seemingly sudden 180 in opinion about the BB? Seems like all your other posts here have been very positive.
Oh I still like it. I bought it to add 16 audio tracks to my Akai Force. It’s done that since day one and does it better now.
It’s the whole small company, released with few options (just like my force), ‘vote’ for features via their forum wishlist with no feedback beyond that type stuff. Just not impressed with whole experience.
It’s no big deal to me. I’ve got a gazillion samplers and DAW’s and synths and more samplers so the BB is pretty unimportant to me and plainly average in performance compared to the powerhouses I have. (Akai, Elektron, DAW, iPad).
But as a sampler and sample player it’s great and I’m keeping it just for the form factor and build. And for the 16 extra audio tracks used in unison with my Force.
Gotcha, yeah that makes sense. The Bento release seems to have exacerbated these issues.
I’m with you though, I’ve got it paired up with my Octatrack now and it’s a great pairing.
So I just received my Bento, but I have no clue how to get existing samples (WAV) files from a Mac or PC onto the SD card. Bento doesn’t show up as drive/device when I connect it to a mac or PC. So so I really need to buy some sort of SD card reader just to get samples onto this thing? Thought I’d ask here since it might be the same on Blackbox and more people have that one. The quick start guide doesn’t say anything about this.
pics or it didn’t happen!!!
I am pretty sure that is what’s been said in one of the videos from SB or by the influenzers. Congrats anyway, that was fast!
Thanks, I’m trying to use an old San Disk MP3 player to get this done . Not the best start I have to say
.
Does anyone know if there is a way to play a pad while it is being recorded to?
What im trying to do is set up something like the RAM machines on Machinedrum. I’ve made a midi loopback to turn the sampler on and off from a pattern and will have another track to trigger payback but I guess it wont work if it cant play and record at the same time? Can anyone think of a way to get it to work? Would be cool!
