That doesn’t make sense to me. Because the output impedance of the headphone amp negatively affects lower impedance headphones, not high impedance. Because with some dynamic headphones, you need a lot more impedance in the headphones than the output impedance. Or it negatively affects the frequency response.

So I think what you’re thinking of is the power output at a given impedance level for a headphone amp.

anyone know if the outputs are dc coupled? can i use it to send CV

Looks like Zoom are pushing ahead with an overall of the entire lineup, with the announcement of the L12next model earlier:

It’s a big unit and not really competing with the L6 or L6Max, but I would like the actual gain control from the L12next please on either or both of those units please Zoom :wink:

I have an L6max on order that will replace a Mackie. Looking forward to 2 FX sends versus 1, more channels, the added flexibility of recording the individual tracks as an interface, and a smaller footprint. Probably won’t use the onboard FX but might come in handy in a pinch

I grabbed a deal on the L6 Max over BF and gave it a spin for a week.

It works well, but the build quality makes me weary long-term. It’s got a rather fragile plastic feel to it and I would personally be concerned if I intended to plug/unplug things constantly.

I feel like I could beat my Mackie 1202vlz against a wall and then wipe it down and tour for years afterwards. I’m not sure the Zoom could survive a single fall onto a hard surface.

I know that’s not going to be a concern for everyone, but it seems worth mentioning for anyone who’s plan is to drag one of these all over the place.

Having said that, functionally it worked very well. I liked workflow and the sound quality was good. I was able to track some guitar through the new UA guitar plugin @ 64 samples and listen while playing and things sounded excellent. If it was built a little better I’d be keeping it.

I’m not expecting “built like a tank” Mackie or anything. If build quality is similar to my H6, should be fine for my intended uses.

tks - i have a mackie and love the fact i can really touch it solidly without breaking it

this was the concern i had with the zoom- i might remain with the 1202 now

Since the FX sends are mono, you can also use the Sub Out as a stereo send if you need to.

The L6max arrives today and maybe I’ll think otherwise once I actually get my hands on it. Needing more channels, I looked at all sorts of options like getting a bigger Mackie but I have limited space. Really hoping the Zoom works out :crossed_fingers:

That’s my plan for going into stereo verb like a Black Hole pedal and going mono into a delay as a separate send.

Will do! I’m currently in the midst of a tear down and resetup - just built a new L-shaped desk last night to have more space so everything is apart and a mess at the moment. Will be getting it back together ASAP tho.

still no midi clock sync on any of these units. It’s a missed chance. Midi sync in/out would make these so much better. Any ideas how you could still sync the L6 line?

Just arrived. Here’s a size comparison shot versus my 8-channel Mackie. I’m pretty amazed how much they squeezed into this thing. It’s essentially the same size as just the top of the Mackie, but a bit wider. And it’s an interface? And battery powered? And, and, and…

First impression on build quality is that it seems very nice actually. It feels solid and like thick heavy nice plastic, not thin, cheap-feeling plastic-y plastic, if that makes sense. The kind of plastic that almost feels like metal. The endcoders/knobs are very smooth and feel nice. The buttons are rubbery, but solid and not too mushy.

So yeah, my first impression out of the box is that it actually exceeds my expectations.

Now, to get things hooked up to this little bugger. :slight_smile:

How well does the ‘channel strip’ button + knob setup work in practice?

Seems intuitive but we shall see. Everything was completely torn down because I got a new desk as well so it will probably take me into the weekend to get all set back up. Underway tho! I’ll report back with some in practice impressions.

I got the max and sold my L6 and would say it was a worthwhile change, if only because now I have a 1:1 mapping from my patch bay output row (minibay v2) to mixer channels and 6 stereo channels (how I’m using it) of audio interface with mixer is a good amount. Mostly I upgraded for the submix out because I love an FX bus and that’s lovely. Having a screen and better on-device interface so there’s no weird button combos is also a big improvement. I’d obviously much prefer an analog input gain vs. the binary on/off 20dB attenuator option but it is nice for synths like my Peak that can really blow out my quieter gear, or just as kind of a momentary “make this quieter then bring it back” effect. 20dB is usually more attenuation than I would want because I like to try to fill the dynamic range of the ADC’s.

As expected it is pretty much exactly like the other in sound quality and size except a couple of inches longer to accommodate the extra 2 mono inputs. On the whole it’s a great mixer just like the other and I haven’t noticed any obvious FW issues but I also don’t use the SD card recording feature. I have feature requested an idea that I have for how they can make the FX sends stereo for stereo input signals, since if they’re spending the compute to sum signals to mono to send them to each FX out I can’t see why they can’t also just split out the stereo signal sides to each out based on a menu option per input pair.

Thank you, sounds very promising - and yeah size wise probably it is exactly half size of the mackie 1202 which I own - this is why I was looking into the zoom as I would save some space on the desk :wink:

Made good progress. It’s almost there but I need a few things - some cables and I am going to switch out the 3hp spacer to the left of the QS with an Erica Synths Pico Multi 2 so I can clock everything that needs clocking (including the delay pedal) with CV. At any rate, figured I’d post another photo showing the size of the Zoom relative to other things like pedals which people may find helpful. I gotta say, love the small footprint - it’s like it fits with everything else now.

Only a few days in but this layout works great for me because I get the basic mix where I want it and then I’m primarily working the machines, not the mixer. When I am touching the mixer, I find it to be very intuitive in practice - press a button, turn some knobs.

If at some point I want to be able to say manipulate two FX sends simultaneously, a small midi controller like my Faderfox would make that possible.

I thought I might miss running through my Golden Master so I set it up with the L6Max master out going to the pedal, then to my MOTU/Mac/DAW to record initially. But after some A/B tests with the onboard compressor/brick wall limiter, I don’t feel I need it and I love that I can mix and record right at my fingertips without the pedal plus an interface and computer or another recording device. The L6max replaces all of that. Excellent.

All in all, I am very happy with this purchase and it’s definitely a keeper.
