Zoom LiveTrak L6

I see - and again, just to confirm, you’re saying that if you’ve got a channel that is either muted or has the volume turned down on the L6, it’s impossible to hear anything in a DAW when using software monitoring on that channel? (for me I’m more interested in the audio interface functionality)

Although I do have one question about SD recording that I’d love to know:

If channels 5 and 6 are set to USB return mode, are the individual USB return streams recorded onto the SD during multitrack SD recording? Or does it only record whatever is physically plugged into the corresponding hardware inputs? (Hoping it’s the first option)

Yes it is recording USB. in the manual you can find the signal flow.

OMG I just realized it DOES work!! For some reason the input channels aren’t listed correctly in AUM. The input channels are +2 the ones I want to select. So let’s say I have a synth going into channel 3 (STEREO) then I have to select USB5+6 in AUM and now I always get the input signal into my bus EVEN when it is muted on the ZOOM L6 itself…

This is amazing. I’m so in love with this thing…

Fantastic news, that’s what I was hoping for.

That’s good news ! I had not already tested this but it would have been an oversight…Glad you were wrong !

[EDIT] Just had a session featuring an osmose, DNII, rymdigare, desert from other cities, gauss looper and the L6…Just :star_struck::star_struck::star_struck: [/EDIT]

Hi , just wondering if anyone here has tested Zoom L6 into Maschine +?
I understand it sends 12 channels of audio class compliant over its USB.
Although I expect Maschine might only utilise 8 mono or 4 stereo pairs.

Pre-fader recording of single channels is the default on other live-oriented mixers as well (e.g. A&H Qu series). I think the idea is to capture the original inputs as precisely as possible in a live situation in order to allow for full control in a studio/DAW mixdown later.

That I totally get. Where I’m confused is: why not give the option? Everything’s digital anyway, should a routing to file after not be just as easy?

Yeah, I get that. I just meant that I didn’t understand why it would be like this when recording onto the SD card, but not when using it as an interface. However, it turns out I was wrong, so…

And an option would always be nice to have…

And to allow playback and fine-tune the mix (eg sound check) on the device itself. Would become impossible when you want to play back a post fader / eq signal through the same mixer as it will re-apply the eq / volume on the same signal again.

Not here. On playback it only plays back the master recordings post mix.

I speak about using the Zoom L6 in my performance here in this interview with Sonicstate. Thought it might be of interest to some folks here.
I loved that I could get a stem mix of the live performance, plus a stereo mix too, and not have to worry about volume levels either.

How did it go in the end? Any issues during the performance?

On in terms of remembering to click the right button for Pan/Volume/EFX so sometimes I realised I was sending the signal to the efx and not changing the volume for example, but that’s just a case of learning to use it properly

Played through a large PA system and it was absolutely silent too which was reassuring. Powered it through an adaptor into the mains and no hum or anything.

Main issue was falling over the monitor in the dark at the end of the show and feeling like a clown, but that had thankfully nothing to do with the mixer

Though I wasn’t laughing at the time!

Regarding clipping. As mentioned above, anything before the AD converter can clip. It’s only once you’re in the digital domain that you get the advantages of 32-bit float.

First: nice part in the interview.
Seems like it will be a hit for traveling musicians. Always great to read about the experience of people that really depend on the gear.

Second: I checked some stuff out on spotify, I like what I’ve heard. I’ll have to take a deeper listen. :open_mouth:

You should embrace it as a somatic comment on the breakdown of society
