I think they delivered beautifully to both those who want a story and those who just want to go off and do whatever. There’s so much content for both.
Guys and girls, I’m blown ! I barely slept and ate since monday. What a great opus !
I’ve recently found some slight moments of boredom with it, mostly on the surface, maybe this is the deja vu / great mundanity the developers talked about. But quickly I can go to another location and it feels fresh again. And still the best underground awaits, which I’ve spent less time in.
I am personally loving the Shrines this time around. Last time, the music was annoying, it’s so much more moody this time around. I think there’s two or three themes too. But I just did this shrine in this huge cavernous space, I just loved that. And they’re great teaches for things in the world - I’m so surprised almost every shrine I do is a brand new Zonai device - it’s crazy
Recently had a similar experience. Having the starting zone near the castle was a smart choice – it’s an area which changed a lot and which many players did not spend a lot of “relaxation time” in in the previous game. To me the whole area felt like I’ve never quite been there.
Once I went on these many exploring tangents, some areas definitely definitely re-activated some areas in my brain.
Overall I think they did really well giving the player lots of fresh experiences in the same world, but at the same time also played with that recogognizing-the-old thing.
I’m going to be honest it took me WAY TOO MANY hours before I realized the towns didn’t just up and move to different spots ![]()
Yeah, it reoriented things. I feel like everything sort of faces south this time.
I still haven’t been to Faron, the Plateau, Akkala region. Had a peak at the Gerudo region but switched course and now rolling the Zora quest line, which has been cool so far. Think I’ll hit the deep in more detail after this rather than Gerudo.
Sounds like wining, but I find the lighting in the shrines to be strange and distracting at times. they lack a little bit of flair to my taste.
Enjoying TotK but my biggest takeaway is realising just how much Elden Ring has ruined gaming for me. It’s set such. high bar for me but Nintendo have done a really good job of getting close to that bar. Better than pretty much anyone else has managed since ER was released!
I’ll be sticking with it as things are opening up nicely. Also can’t help but hope Nintendo get the finger out for its next console. What they have managed with TofK is a technical marvel.
It´s getting almost to the point, where I would say some games are for life now you could spend time there over and over. There were such games in the past like Civilisation but those were not Adventure Games. But now You Have Elden Ring and TotK which I will keep dearly for a very very long Time.
Diablo 4 might be the Same but it´s different there again because it´s more competition based and made to be held up for a long time by giving you goodies.
Agreed.
I know there’s variations and attempts at this but wouldn’t it be cool to have a world like TotK where dugneons/shrines are just quietly added to or evolving over time. I know that takes money and I know you could argue stuff like World of Warcraft has been doing that for years but I guess I mean like some vast playground (like ER or TotK) where you never really manage to find and do everything.
I can see myself mostly mainlining TotK. It’s incredible though how un used to the A/B buttons being that way around now having not played my Switch in years
totally.
I think we can bet that nintendo will keep bringing out those big zelda worlds now. But I keep TotK now. That stays.
Man this Zora area is next lev. Hot damn
I’m getting major black reach vibes from the depths. First exploring the depths gave me a similar feeling as ending up in black reach in skyrim more than a decade ago.
Next up is what could be considered a spoiler, although it’s not related to the story or anything.
Summary
Yesterday, I had an absolutely incredible experience with one of those long, legendary dragons. I caught it flying down the hole to the depths in kakariko village, jumped on it, held on to it and managed to stay on its back for a really nice ride through the depths (which i haven’t explored too much, aside from the first quest). It just gave me a glimpse of the countless places I still have to uncover beneath highrule, gloomy towers and monsters moving in the darkness. I’m really psyched explore the depths some more now.
Right?! Love that section of the game!
I was absolutely astounded when I first had one of these moments! I did the exact same thing and I was in awe the entire time.
I maxed out my stamina yesterday, and I have like 10 hearts. Starting to feel like combat is manageable though it kind of feels like it went from too difficult to too easy all of a sudden. I still haven’t explored the southwest corner of the map at all - I’ve been squeezing everything that I can out of Akkala, Hyrule Field, and Necluda (and I still have so much to see in those regions). Akkala is my favorite by far - autumn is my favorite season because of the pretty trees.
Hebra side quest spoilers
I also did the labyrinths in Hebra recently. I won’t spoil it for anybody who hasn’t done them, but that was easily one of the coolest things I’ve done in a Zelda game. Don’t remember if I talked about that earlier so apologies if I did.
spoiler response
Was it actually substantially more different than the BotW labyrinths? I explored one a little bit, but as soon as I saw the gloom hands(first time experiencing them) i warped tf out of there
Continued Hebra sidequest spoilers
I only remember the northeast one in BotW, and only remember that one a little to be honest. The first of the Hebra labyrinths is pretty easy, took me maybe 10 mins. The second one is where the really cool stuff happens - I won’t spoil that. It’s also relatively simple, but the gimmick/ mechanic is incredible.
more of this
Oh yeah, I came across the second one first, but it didn’t let me in. I loved the moon physics parts of the game! I’ll have to try the labyrinths soon

This game has vastly exceeded my expectations for it.
All its missing, from my gameplay experience is a more prominent sense of danger- ESPECIALLY in tandem with the bright bloom and ascend abilities.
There’s a video clip from Bloodborne I’ve seen where someone approaches a well where a ghost player climbs out, they climb in and, while on the ladder, see a nightmarish gargantuan monster hanging from the ceiling and nope out of there.
Every time I ascend or brightbloom I anticipate that dread. This far into the game, as far as that danger in concerned, I feel disappointed.
I really DO like this game, and its probably not fair to compare it to From Software, but dang the absolute immersion in that game was second to none.
