Your Setups (Part 2)

im 5:8

This is my setup for a performance tomorrow.

It feels strange to be rolling with a newer MPC instead of my trusty Octatrack or Norns + Grid, but MPC 3.0 is just making a lot of sense to me right now. I’ve been loading it up with samples and loops from my other gear and slicing them to the pads to be worked into longer arrangements. The DK is synced via MPC’s cv outs and S-4 with midi. Everything has been rock solid.

Btw, I’m psyched how everything is fitting in this case!

And what is the role for the M8 in all this? It is the only piece, I am not sure what would it bring in a set-up like this.

I am glad to see that you have Brussel Sprouts there. You’re going to need the energy for your show. Also, looks like a great setup.

The M8 is acting as an additional sample playback device to use for transitions. I like being able to trigger loops that aren’t synced with everything else, and although I could probably do that with the MPC, it’s nice to have it on a separate audio input.

That’s a stunning setup :ok_hand:

Good catch :joy: My music room is currently in disarray, with boxes stacked filled with random things that needs to be sorted. I normally make everything look nice before taking a photo of my gear, but this is the reality of things, raw and uncut (brussel sprouts)

Pretty much maxed out on what I can fit in here.
If only my talent matched my budget. There are worse ways to have a midlife crisis I suppose.

You mean a mid-life renaissance!

Easily enough room for 2 or 3 Elektrons on that desk :grinning:

That space is reserved for the wet bar.

I have a Rytm arriving today, replacing a Syntakt. It might be joined by a Heat+ FX but I think that’ll be it…until next time.

I had a Prophet 5 and Super 6 desktop too until recently. But I decided to let them go. The P5 just sounds relentlessly Prophety all the time and I never really gelled with UI on the S6. Amazing synths though.

Is a tg33 the one with the green display?

It is, still trying to learn that one. The UI is pretty clunky, no filter and the vector stick seems a little underwhelming, but I read an interview with ASC where he mentioned it was one of his favourites, so I thought I’d give it a go.

Early days still and not so expensive that I worry about having loads on money sunk into it, so I can give myself time to explore it more fully.

I’ve been thinking about trying it for a year now, for the price it’s at it could be a nice piece to have even just for the presets. The joystick seems very playful for a live set

Here are some short clips of the show. The sound quality isn’t great, but it gives you an idea.

For context, I founded a neurodiverse digital media collective called Videotones, and we were selected to be part of a five week long art exhibition and residency operating within a gallery at our local art college. Last night, for our closing reception, we showcased all of the work that was made in the space, and me and another Videotones artist performed some music as Jandyband.
