Recently added the SY-1 and Peak to the setup. I’m done for a while now. Pretty much no space left in my little corner anyway, although that top shelf…
Recently traded out an Octatrack for the Push 3 controller, which I am seriously thinking about reversing, as I am realizing how easy it is to max out my laptop’s CPU.
Yeah whatever is in the laptop probably isn’t better than the standalone upgrade kit, and definitely doesn’t replace an octatrack’s functionality or tactility.
I’ll argue that laptop is most likely way better than the standalone upgrade kit! Afterall isn’t the standalone kit just an obsolete i3 dual core NUC?
What happened to A4 and AR?
A4 is on the other, AR sold.
Yes, but it doesn’t have to run Windows.
Cool track, kind of vangelis / early John carpenter love child. Ping me when you have an album done.
Sure anyway based purely on the rather excessive latency I’ll argue is not running a native Linux version of Ableton Live most likely a virtual machine of some sort. So in a sense it does run windows I guess!
My studio took a beating since 2022 due to house purchase and renovations. But I ticked a long standing box to get a model 1 mixer to tie everything together. Also I combined my guitar recording setup with my electronic stuff hence two ssl6 mixers. Quite flexible setup and planning to keep this way for a long spell.
Yeah, looks like it took one hell of a beating…
Well that’s fair. But that is the kit and kaboodle, nothing in boxes. And I sold a ton of good stuff. But I’m hardly down to a paper and comb so you got me there!
Yeah, my laptop is much more powerful than the upgrade kit.
Turns out the glitches and crackles were caused by using Analog Heat as my interface. I’m not sure why, but when I switched to using the Push 3 interface, everything was running fine.
I do miss the tactility of the OT, but pretty much every aspect has been a smoother process on Push, so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on functionality.
Stability is another story. Using a laptop will never be a static environment.
In retrospect, I kind of wish that I had gotten the volt 476P instead of the 476. In reality there were only a couple of times that it actually mattered.
I’ve had the Volt for a bit, the MKS-50 is the other addition. Volt sounds great to my ears, and the compressor/preamp emulations are quite useful.
