Your setups [ 10k Archive]

@hagbard1st
I’m using this purely as a studio setup, but it would be relatively simple to put the core of this setup (the line mixers and patchbays) in a 4U road case.

In my case I’m using the numerous routing possibilities to experiment with complex sound mangling, feedback, re-sampling, etc. For example, I really like feeding the output of various signal paths back into the octatrack, or through the filter of the Mopho and then back into the octactrack. Sometimes this leads to exciting musical possibilities, sometimes to crazy noise!

If I was taking this on the road I’d probably try and simplify things a bit around a few key routing arrangements.

do you have to have a specific post count to attach images? can’t seem to. anyways…

thought I’d snap a pic since my work area is clean for once and I’ve finished hooking everything up and hacking up stands to be the right hight after adding an AK and AR this week. I don’t have a whole lot of space to work so my monitors aren’t in the best position for playing but are good for working in cubase so it gets the job done.

crappy pano… there’s a drone commander hiding behind the macbook.

so for synth stuff I’m using:

[ul]
[li]Analog Keys (running as master)[/li]
[li]Analog RYTM[/li]
[li]Monomachine SFX60+ MKII[/li]
[li]Machinedrum SPS-IUW MKII[/li]
[li]Moog minitaur (sequenced by the monomachine)[/li]
[li]Grendel Done Commander (one day I’ll have to get a few more)[/li]
[li]OP-1[/li]
[/ul]

throw that all through a mixer and into an Apogee Duet2, then into cubase 7.5. I also play guitar so I have tons of stomp boxes around that I sometimes use on the synths and drum machines, and have resorted to pretty much ditching amps completely and running direct using preamps and a Two Notes Torpedo CAB for speaker/power amp/mic simulation.

I finally finished my MIDIbox SEQV4 and installed it into my live rig… Now it is a matter of learning it and figuring out a good work flow…

This is right now my time machine. OT, A4 and diy Modular (including Befaco and Mutable Instruments modules) just scratching the sonic possiblities of this killer combo.

Other synths on the home studio are: Shruthi, MS20 Mini, Ambika, Juno 106 plus some stompboxes, in fact most of the time i’m a bass player.

Digging the focused setup cosmosuave

This is my latest setup. I use a 2 track recorder and then transfer to ableton for minimal edits. Without a +drive, I tend to do backups often but it’s not really an issue. I’m also doing a lot of audio processing of samps for the sp606 and editing tetra patches.

I don’t know if you can see, but I’m using a cracked out laptop with no screen as my studio computer. It’s a lenovo hackintosh with Osx 10.6.8 installed. Works like a charm.

It was a long time in the making… Looks like you do live gigs as well…

Actually, all of the live gigs I’ve done were using a monome with mlr. It wasn’t a bad setup but it wasn’t very flexible for “fresh” improvisational stuff since you’re kinda stuck with what you put into mlr.

I’m also now in my 2nd year of teaching 5th grade and have an 18 month old son, so I really wanted to create a setup that was fun, immediate, and somewhat portable.

I remember in another post that you mentioned having kids. So it’s nice to know there are others out there with kids who are still pumping out the tunes

B-)

Hats off to you for being a teacher… I know it it can be a tough job and have no idea how you guys have patience to handle that many kids when I find it hard with just 2… As for music making fun is #1 as I just want to turn on the gear and explore not plot stuff on a computer screen with a mouse…

Thanks, being a first time teacher + father last year was rough. I’m getting the hang of it more and learning to leave the work at work.

As for “exploring,” I couldn’t have said it better.

With my new sub 37

That looks like jungle/d’n’b setup?

finally got my nord pad/drum stand sorted!

Update: Switched my TR-8 for a MM. Also better lighting now. Feels like the elektrons is taking over >_<.

Very nice!
I have a couple of questions if you wouldn’t mind answering, first, are those the Thomann desktop 4U units and if so how do you find the height of your screen, is it too high?
Second, that iPad clamp looks hardcore, what is it?
Cheers

Hi!
Yes, it is indeed the Thomann desktop 4U. It was a bit unusual in the beginning but now I like it very much, I feel less strain in my neck since my head is looking more horizontal instead of downwards. One thing though, I have a 27" monitor with 2560x1440 resolution, and text gets pretty small sometimes.
Yes, the iPad stand is awesome and sturdy. It’s the iKlip Stand and I can only recommend it. It comes both with a desk clamp and ‘feet’.
Cheers!

What did you use to make those diagrams?

I drew them in a program called OmniGraffle (Visual Communication Software To Make Pro Diagrams - OmniGraffle - The Omni Group).
