Analog meets Digital
I say Hello from Hanau Germany

Hi (sorry for the late reply)! No A/B recordings of the RNC yet, been away most of the summer. Will try to remember to do that!
We’re in a new house in a new city. We left a lot behind - my Genelec 8040a 's, Emax, Juno 60, SH 1000, Poly 61, and Akai AX80 among others (the Gene’s and Emax I’d like to ship here TBH)- but we’ve got some nice things here with us.
The room is untreated but it will have nice traps up next. Also a pair of Warm Audio 1176 clones and a pair of Culture Roosters are on their way, along with a S700 rack unit sampler (!)
But in shot is DX7, ASR 10, Akai X7000 keyboard sampler, ASol Tereshkova modular, CS50, Chroma Polaris (!), ESQ1, OT and new AR, a pair of Focal monitors, RME UCX and an old 2-track cassette recorder, Ensoniq Mirage rack, Neumann mic, and some old 4 channel desk.
I finally have reorganised my set up.
The arrangement could seam weird, but it suits me totally… and my wife also use the mac …
I don’t need to touch the alpha juno because the computer act like an editor for it (it’s a pain in the ass to edit it directly)
and the nord lead could act like a controller for my plug-ins.
I think I have to buy an Iconnectmidi to integrate the Ipad into this set up…
that is pretty much my dream setup that you have there!
is that IKEA ? … such a clean and orderly setup! … very inspiring!
how expensive is that?
can you slide the elektron boxes out individually or do they come layered out and together …
more pics! this is gear porn to my eyes!

Hej!
Yes the desk is is a GALANT combination (≈250x80cm) from IKEA with [url=“http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00225293/#/80150095”]FINNVARD legs and the monitor shelves is [url=“http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79002586/”]THIS combination, I just cut the shelf in half and bought two extra [url=“http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10168720/#/50251029”]TÖRE consoles. This was a perfect fit height wise for the desktop racks!
(The GALANT desk comes with a metal frame underneath which is perfect for strapping cables to!)
The Desktop Racks and the[url=“http://www.thomann.de/se/thon_stellboden_2he.htm”] Rack Trays are from Thomann, not cheap but they are high quality.
The rack trays are completely individual so I can slide them in/out as much/litte I want. Also i just discovered that the ELEKTRON plastic covers fits in there as well!
I will also link a simple Sketchup drawing of the desk (I fint this a really good tool for planning )
And som more pics.
Great set-up I have the same combination…but no volcas
This is my studio table/laundry room. I now use standing desk policy without computer. The IKEA furniture had to suffer when more gear came in and I had to use the saw to make some adjustments for proper working.
I still have to cut off that left arm of the table because my girlfriends keeps bumping herself when she’s putting up the laundry.
that looks super sweet! Some day, I will get rid of my computer as well!
thank you very much for that detailed description and the inclusion of the links in your answer!
this is really cool and fantastically well thought out!
looks really cool, is super practical … good job mewraz !
really appreciate it!
Here’s my setup. My home studio also doubles as a home office and guestroom, so maximum gear per square foot is the order of the day. Placement of speakers isn’t ideal, and I don’t have any room treatment, but spousal approval factor for my gear is already on the low end, so any more mucking with the room is out for now.
I like to stand while I’m making music, so I built my setup around a two shelf steel table with heavy duty casters. The bottom shelf holds two carpted 12U studio racks. I have various laptop holders/stands to create the layers above the table surface. The floating arm that my master keyboard (Analog Keys!) sits on right was built from 1 1/4" galvanized pipe and Kee Klamp fittings
wow amazing set-up. The biscuit looks tasty.
Some redundancy on the drum machines I guess.
It seems to look a little wobbly table (or maybe its the wheels). Is the table steady when your smashing your AR pads?
how do you use the timeline and the space?
Thanks! My gear setup has gone through lots of iterations – steadily moving increasingly towards being totally in hardware. With the recent addition of a Cirklon I can be pretty much computer free at the idea/composition stage.
The table is very solid, no wobbliness at all. The total weight capacity is up to 150 lbs per shelf (when on feet); and while I’ve got lots of stuff on there I’m no where near that limit.
I do indeed have a few too many drum machines! I’m not using the Tempest much these days, so unless that changes soon it will probably be on the chopping block. I’m also probably going to sell the Mopho Keys now that the AK is doing controller duty…
My effects setup is fairly complicated…
I don’t know if you can tell from the pic but I have two patchbays, a Shure Auxpander, and a couple of line mixers. I’ve got the various pieces setup so that every instrument or combination of instruments can be routed into one of my effects units (timeline, space, biscuit, or compressor) either individually or in combination. Furthermore, the output of the different effects units can be routed to each other, or into the octactrack for further mangling.
The whole setup allow for pretty flexible sound mangling and manipulation, though I admit I haven’t taken full advantage of all it’s capable of yet! My typical, day-to-day setup is Prophet8 → Space, Machine Drum → Timeline → Compressor, AK or Mopho → Biscuit.
Interesting to have the plank weighted down by the speakers. Won’t the vibrations affect the gear?
beautiful! you have definitely succeeded w/ maximum gear density without sacrificing playability.
