Your modulars

how do you think about supermodules that are jack of all trades (disting, plaids) etc. vs specialists that do just one thing, but that really well. I found the later much more inspiring and fun to use. I think its because I dont want to think about deep buried technical details, when I make music. So what about you? Keep it it simple or max it out?

I’m actually fine that I don’t have much knowledge in synthesis, and also my lack of musicality. This lends to me that I don’t need a huge wall of modules, just a humble simple subtractive synth 3u 84hp rack + OT and RYTM. :nyan:

I think you’re right theoretically. So people which know all possibillities and dont care about having a bigger system have more fun with 1 function modules. I imagine you can patch more intuitively, which is nice. A disting is good to find out what is lacking in your system, i thought about getting one just to learn different approaches of modular. plaits on the other hand is well thought out so you can change the synthesis method in a sequence which can lead to interessting results and the parameters are coherent through the models, thats why i got it over…braids.

I have been thinking of adding a small case mainly for effects to add to current setup i currently have a DT DN SH10a Tb03 and Korg monolgue the latter getting very little use at present,Has anyone else looked at a smaller modular setup for effects and if so what modules would you recommend ?

I was fantasizing about an all analogue fx rack the other day:

Modulargrid is evil. Feeds your GAS fever and you know that…

Got this 6U half full very cheap and one day woke up to having it filled. It’s a only a 3 osc monosynth in a huge wooden box, nothing crazy.

This thread is so quiet…

Something very similar just happened to me. Having been sniffing around euro for years I finally put a couple of orders in. Wondering what might happen to supply and prices over the next year (especially here in the UK) also had an influence.

Intellijel Palette case, based around a System80 810 voice. Intention is a heavily modulated mono voice sequenced by M:C or MnM. Have also ordered a MI Kinks that I might experiment with swapping for the dual VCA to get noise/S&H etc - will see how it all works…

The Doepfer module clears the case by about half a mm! Nearly an early lesson learned there. :joy:

Will probably have to wait a couple of weeks for the rest of it but I think I can fashion an ADSR using one of my Aira modular fx units and start to play it from the Keystep already…

The Palette is really a great format to either dip a toe or take some modules away from the big system to focus on them. Love mine.

Here’s a beauty shot with the morning sun

and a couple of my previous Palette iterations :

Let a brother know when to get that 301 off your back

So weird, I am literally in the process of deciding how to put a pallet or pod case together centring around my Er 301…I love having it in my main 12u rackbrutes set up, but the more I learn the ways in which I can use it, the more I want to build a separate micro system…the pallets look amazing, but they’re a little pricey. Maybe an exercise in minimalism is what I need…

Do you use fader bank/ic2 stuff with the er301? I’m considering something like the 8m…

My modular. Lot’s of diy :ok_hand:

!

!

Now in good company with the Pyramid, Ot, MnM, MD and a rack full of fx:

That`s the “live” part of the studio

I’ve got a small MOTM phaser rack I’ve built aswell:

My modulargrid rack continously changes, but I haven`t made much changes to the physical rack in a while. It works quite well, could probably need some more envelopes and some specialty modules like comparators and logic. Oh, and I’m planning to change the STMix (that’s in the Slew Limiters place in the picture) with more L-1 Mixers, and go straight from them into my audio-interface (and soon to be finished 24-channel API summing mixer! wee!)

It’s available ! Just order it

Swedish tax is over the top when buying stuff outside of the EU, the percentage on the price of the module breaks my ass

thanks Obama!

I don’t use ic2, mostly triggers/modulation from Pamela and a couple offsets. Offsets are really useful but for my use I don’t need a ton. I don’t do sound creation with it, just sampling, looping and FX mostly.

I made a quick video explaining how I use it some time ago :

I’m using it more and more in the big system as well.

That ResEQ with the long sliders must be super cool ! I love the R*S version but sometimes wish it had CV. Filterbanks are great.

Good video and that’s a really cool little set up. I use mine in a similar way, a lot of sampler/grains units and live looping. It lives with the Performer and PNW as sequencer/trigger. Spent the last hour on modular grid coming up with potential set ups…but actually I feel like it’s perfect almost as is. Maybe I should get a 84 skiff, so I can use it more remotely.

The ResEq was one of my first DIY module, when the panel was available through the diy section of muffs. It still uses the CGS pcb, there’s just a panel-pcb for the faders added. Quite abit of wiring.

It doesn’t have cv inputs; those are outputs of the individual bands. Don’t use them much. The faders are great for live tweaking tough, I love it setup in a delay-feedbackpath, using the faders to add resonance/frequency selected feedback. Much dubness to be had!

I asked around the possibility of cv-controlled gains, but the design of the eq won’t allow it without heavily altering the curves and response. What I do want is a second one, so I can crossfade between two eq’s with different settings. Must be cool!

Oh yeah, crossfading could be nice ! I though there was a version with Cv but I must have been mistaken. I have the Verbos Bark Filter which has followers, inputs et individual ouputs and it’s amazing. Also the ResEQ feedbacking like crazy into the Bark can get amazing drones
