Your modulars (Part 1)

Great overview!

For anyone who has $2500 of gear funds burning a hole in their pocket, Big City music in LA regularly has the SM-1 in stock. No third party price gouging!

I’ve been looking longingly at the SM-1 for a while…maybe one day… :star_struck:

Wow! What kind of magic is that “replace” at 14:20!

If I did, for that price I’d be tempted.

I saw schneiders has some semi regularly as well. At that price they don’t come flying off the shelves. they do it in black now too, for the black panel inclined.

But yeah, I’ve tried to forever forget about that invoice and just make a lot of music with it ahah.

@Skypainter : S1 would be nice but yeah that’s just… too much.

The last few sold on Reverb went for closer to $2000….

During the last year, I developed my drum rack.
It was a bit of a fight to get everything to where it is now. But I wanted something super tweakable, with everything you could wish for a hypnotic techno liveset. (and I’m not easy to satisfy when It comes to drums
I got mixing, EQ, fx, compression, distortion, drums, percussion, subbass, even stuff happening in stereo besides the FX.

It was kinda expensive to build this thing, but worth it for sure.
Dont worry, I have another case for synth stuff only :stuck_out_tongue:
This is what It looks like:

I posted some reels on my Instagram, so you can have a short listen too, if anybody is interested.

Playing a liveset in front of a crowd in Karlsruhe on Saturday with this, I plan to record the Set and put it on soundcloud

Really wish I’d never sold my SM-1

A special edition release from Instruo — proceeds will help support the care of Jason Lim’s lovable greyhound Winston. It’s a wicked filter in its own right but all the better to contribute to the cause.

As someone pretty new to eurorack, what’s the deal with Cwejman modules?

They seem to be very highly regarded and pricey, so I’m guessing they’re not made any more, or were a small/boutique thing?

They’re very well made, well thought out, nice sounding modules. As far as I know they are not made now, or maybe in small batches? I had a few about 10-12+ years ago and loved them. Especially the VCO-6. People tend to hoard them, so yeah, they’re a bit hard to find, and priced through the roof. I would say if you can get a batch of them together for even a somewhat reasonable price, you’d be happy with the purchase. That said, there are a lot of other brands selling high quality, novel, and well made modules now, so I would say that Cwejman is more a boutique collector sort of thing now. Still worth it. Still nice. But not necessarily completely unique. When Wowa first released the S1 and then later the first Euro modules, they were a step above a lot of what was in Euro (especially build-wise). Some interesting functions as well. There were only a fraction of the people making them then that are now though.

Cwejman modules are back in production:

Available from just two retailers:

  • US – Big City Music in LA
  • Germany – Schneidersladen

Nice! That’s good to hear!

The founder (Wowa) died in 2021, but the family has continued limited production of the modules, which were never widely available. My sense from listening to demos is that, if one could erase the scarcity effect, they are respectable, maybe a bit large and inflexible at times, but certainly a distinctive sound.

I forgot that Wowa had died. RIP We definitely lost a lot of really influential synth designers over the past few years. :frowning:
