Your modulars (Part 1)

Based on the list I suspect it might be the same library…

I’m glad I added an extra Maths. This is going to make following their videos on the new system easy.

I still don’t have an x-pan, and not sure I’ll ever add it. I’m keeping CVilization their for now.

Spectraphon seems too niche to build a whole system around. A stereo XPO-based system, with X-Pan, QPAS, DXG, etc, seems more like something I would expect them to do.

Where’s that info?

This is probably the most beautiful patch I’ve ever heard on a modular system… and it’s seriously making me consider getting that used morphagene that just got posted…

Morphagene is fun to play around with but has a number of issues that I would find frustrating in the long run. I was fortunate to have it loaned to me, and I gave it back when I had reached the point where I would have to invest substantial work in getting more out of it. Much later I acquired ADDAC 112, which gives me much of the capability but with much more precise control.

Beautiful. Going back through my previous modular recordings, it’s always the Morphagene based patches that stand out the most - in a strong way. It’ll be the last module I ever get rid of.

some of that is mimeophone for sure though.

Its a good solution if you don’t have other ADAT gear, but I found that I needed word clock. I was getting dropouts and glitches. So I switched for a ferrofish pulse 16 and it is rock solid.

The more I use it, the less I think it’s niche. It’s not as traditional with listed waveforms like XPO, but you can get amazing bass tones and everything else in between. I think when they released it they showcased more high frequency, harsh digital tones but it does way more.

I’m guessing they’ll have more videos soon.

Someone else on another forum mentioned that an update is coming soon, too. I’m not promising that’s true, but that’s just what I read from someone who is usually on point with those things.

It’s one of the most used voices I have actually mainly due to just how much you can get out of it. I’ve been able to use it for a lot of bass and lead stuff, percussion, textures, all sorts. It sounds very very powerful too. The demos definitely don’t do it much justice unfortunately as there is too much focus on getting weird with it*, but it really is so much more than that. However, I do think 2 Maths is a bit much. I get it’s very useful and loved and whatnot but if I were buying this system I’d 100% have preferred an XPO in there and one of their newer half Maths things instead.

  • a pet peeve of mine with a lot of modular videos in general, but some people enjoy it so who am I to judge? And don’t get me started on

I keep thinking they were likely trying to show how different it can be from something like XPO, but with something that takes 34hp, it’s just as important to show the more traditional sounds.

Just another guess here, but as they went with the modern hype train of pushing to synthfluencers, there’s a good chance the first videos were guesswork.

Here’s my banana Blacet system out for a stroll…

Nice!!! That’s how I started out!

I still miss my Blacet system - such a great format when nana’d up like you’ve done, and some really great sounding modules.

That’s what I use — a Maths and a Function. I actually wanted two Maths but this is a good compromise of hp.

However, Make Noise stopped making the Function so maybe that’s why?

+1, I also use maths + function although they mostly perform different tasks rather than working together. I had dual maths for a few months but sold it off since I have complex OSCs who overlap most of the cool audio stuff maths can do.

It’s like Make Noise is trolling me. “What will annoy him even more than Maths…? Two Maths!”

The spec on the ES-10 explicitly say you can’t use it without an ADAT input. I assumed this was to provide clock, though the manual doesn’t say that explicitly. So hard to fault them on this point.

I had ADAT in and out on my Motu 828es. I just found that having other ADAT pre amps connected to my 828 and the ES-10 gave me glitches and dropouts. Using BNC word clock fixed my problems. You may well be fine. Personally I prefer having the Pulse 16 now as its given me a load more ins and outs for other gear.
