Your modulars (Part 1)

Now, a library with old people playing the Moog One, that would be something

[Edit: I think I am officially “old” now so this is not as far-fetched as it sounds]

got the mixer modules and finished rearranging my case. Borrowed a decent DSLR with audio in and did a little video. It’s amazing how much more functional everything is with the mixer, definitely feels like a proper standalone instrument.

im thinking about switching out my Variable Waveform Generator for a Complex oscilator.

I see a lot of recent talk about Schlappi Three body.

How are people liking it?

XAOC Sofia is another strong contender for me, i hear some really unique timbres coming out of that module.

Edit:

I mean listen to this bloody patch, so awesome!
With seemingly little modulation

I am seriously impressed by Three Body. Here is a link to my writeup on it, in section 3.4.1.6 of my flânerie FIMS (sorry, you will have to scroll, I didn’t generate sublinks to each oscillator).

https://cs.uwaterloo.ca/~plragde/flaneries/FIMS/A_Eurorack_System.html#(part._.Oscillators)

@DaveMech recently purchased one.

Among XAOC offerings, I’m more intrigued by Odessa than Sofia, but not to the point of purchasing. I’d like to try both of these at some point.

Very nice write up!

It sounds like it’s great to use untethered from any restrictive analog filter with its pristine sound.

I’ll look into it some more

I think that reduced need for filtering is generally the case with a decent FM implementation, using sine carriers. Three Body has saw/cosaw outputs and those are better with a bit of filtering (even with no FM, of course). But even using sines, most implementations become unusable when the index/deviation is cranked up. Three Body stays – well, I won’t claim usable, because I don’t know what people’s needs are – but it stays listenable and compelling. There is a range of interesting noisier timbres available, not just hiss or mush. It took me a while before I put it through any effects, or even a VCA.

The BRiES two-hour deep-dive video on Three Body is definitely worth the time it takes to watch and listen.

Those two are actually my fav voices. Sofia is great, love the sound, modulations take it way above normal voices. The Three Body is so damn strong and powerful…just a knockout.

I borrowed Three Body for a month. My write up is somewhere up-thread, but in short, I loved it. You can wring out a lot of sounds and textures, and modulate all of it.

Also, the knobs are just incredible. Build quality is amazing.

Also, for anyone reading this, check out @Musement’s posted jams with this borrowed rig, which give a very good sense of what starting with a Schlappi rig is like (3B is the only Schlappi module I own, but I’m keen to try any of the others).

Does anyone have the Expert Sleepers es-9? That looks like a great audio/cv interface and the price is very good for 8 channels adat. Maybe that‘s why its sold out everywhere

this looks really fucking cool…

Not sure i dig a lot of the sounds coming out of it, but conceptually its really cool.
fits somewhere between landscape noon and Blast beats

Not my type of sound, either, but I appreciate the term “malfunction generator”

I think some post here on Eleketronauts hinted at a rumor that Expert Sleepers might have a new module on the way. Perhaps an update to the ES-9?

apparently each voice is a CMOS sensor which is fed Voltage through the sequencer or the POKE inputs, and then you use the mini knobs to alter the outputs from CMOS sensors.

Really crazy concept, I LOVE IT!

Ah no, I mean the Es-10 and i think that is a brand new module.

In that case, the other module you might want to compare to is the new Boredbrain Optx v2:

Similar pricing between the two. I’m not sure anyone has compared them head to head. I ended up going for the Optx v2 myself becuase of the slightly less HP and the internal sample clock on the Optx.
