Ah, I didn’t understand you’re setup. Yes, when using more than two ADAT devices BNC word clock is typically required to get everything in sync.
Miniwave
my fav module, lots of love for tides (i got 2 also!)
Its really special, its great at breathing Life into a patch
Two, you love it.
Same here
I always have a love and hate relation with it. Can you make it one of my favorite too ?
This is a skiff-sized system I put together around Spectraphon which might be a fun alternative to the Resynthesizer:
Note distributed Maths I would add some external audio sources and sequencing here for more variety, but it works well as a performable drone system on its own.
Ah I didn’t realise! Think the only MN module I currently have is the Spectraphon but didn’t the function or whatever just come out a few months ago?? Or am I thinking of something else?
I’m glad you said it.
I thought of another good line, with respect to Function: “Half a Maths is better than one”.
I’ll see myself out.
That was the final run in black and gold but you should still be able to find some around.
BTW neither my system above nor the Resynthesizer have Moddemix but I would recommend it with Spectraphon if you have one around. You can mod A with B or other stuff and it’s an interesting dirty VCA too.
But what is the hate for Maths all about. Is it just that it’s popular?
I don’t hate it. I just think it’s over-hyped, especially for beginners. I set out to write a demystification to help said beginners, but switched to using another module (Falistri) to illustrate the basic concepts, and I explain that choice here:
https://cs.uwaterloo.ca/~plragde/flaneries/FIMS/Falistri__A_Function_Generator.html
Understood… In that case, I think Florian summed it up nicely in his modular Bad Gear episode. Basically, lots of people have it but can’t explain what it does.
Ahh ok. Yeah I’m seeing a couple around, looks interesting! I’d never really looked into it. I use the Spectraphon with a stereo VCA matrix mixer (Shaka 8) and it’s a LOT of fun. Well worth trying if you can.
This is an excellent read btw. Really enjoyed it. I think if I were to sum up what my issue with Maths is, is that it’s sort of a jack of all trades but with extra steps. I’m not sure if that makes much sense but for what I was using it for, it would take up too much space. The more interesting use cases I never found myself doing outside of once or twice just to do it.
It does make a hell of a kick drum though - made sure to sample it before I sold it.
I like Function in that setup functionally (HA HA) and visually since you can have one cycling envelope on each side. So if you are making a slow moving droney thing, you can use mults and have each Function modulate some stuff on side A and some stuff on side B and then slowly bring in more via the attenuverters or main knobs. It looks pretty and symmetrical. I got the idea from the OG Perfect Circuit demo of the Spectraphon, where I think they used two Functions to keep people from getting confused by Maths.
…that’s exactly why I’ve turned a Maths into 2 Pittsburgh lifeforms modtools + mutable blinds
the overall „grip“ of the lifeforms looping envelope is another and more intense creation, I can imagine that MN did some changes to the serge circuit but Pittsburgh didn‘t
