Your modulars (Part 1)

A riches of modulation and utility. A person of my heart. Where does the SBG go?

To some pedals, originally really for a Poly Beebo. The idea was to create a (sorta, minus the CV) Hector on the cheap without needing a bigger case. I might sell the Beebo though – for complex FX stuff I generally end up doing it ITB, and without CV it’s not as useful as it could be. The SBG is god for bringing in other pedals though, especially with the expression output.

after going back and forth a couple of days/nights/weeks … finally took the chance and pulled the trigger to get a verbos CO and the almighty Optomix from Schneiders, as both a currently available. (Not sure how big the stock is).

DPO was and still is my first complex oscillator and I think I have a good glue of what it sounds like and what I like about it and what I not like. But when I hear demos of the verbos, to my ears it mostly has a very special sound charakter that I like and that I“m just not getting out of the DPO.

Was also concidering the frap tools brenso, because its the fullest featured CO on paper for sure. But there are not so many demos out there, showing the technoish side - so to speak. Most demos are more on the clean side.

But hey, as the saying goes, you can never have to many complex oscillators

For the curious I have made a short sound comparative between the Buchla and Tiptop 258t and the Verbos Electronics CO:

nice! I think already watched your video (as I tried to watch all the verbos videos on the ytube), but will watch again.

Whats your personal experience with the verbos vs the tiptop buchla?

Interested to see what you find. Please report back. Verbos looks easier to control. Hope it’s what you want.

I have absolutely no clue coming from hardware synths mate. I have lots of modules now but… think I need another case lol

Right I have this Behringer Four Play VCA do I need the Doepfer mixers? Got a lot of drum modules was gonna order a couple of these as they have (PAN)

I could get the Erica Mixer but that has no pan so I thought the Doepfer might do?

Nice [doepfer]

I suggested the Abstract Inst Octo cuz you were asking about modulation sources. That one is LOADED.

Inspired by the two-letter acronyms for various Elektron boxes (DN, DT, A4, ST, etc.), I started to assign similar codes to all my modules, only to realize to my dismay that my Doepfer and Addac modules refuse to play along…!

That’s a very interesting thought. If it is a bad thing, well I’m a saint.

I really enjoy this conversation. I’ve been working a lot, but in the back of my head thinking about this. When I first thought about getting into modular, I was really turned on by the video I had seen by Make Noise of feedback with the ā€œTape & Microsound Music Machineā€ system. I mean I have an amazing techno set-up with the OT & the MnM…But, then I got caught up in watching all the vids about tiny techno systems, and then decided to build a synth that would make cool patterns (forgetting where I had started)…
Now as I look back, I remember one of my favorite modular experiances, when I was full on into the iPad and the iVcs3 app. I could play with that thing all day, and have very little idea what I was doing, but getting some of the best sounds out of it. That’s where I am right now. I have loads of modulators and the DPO/Optomix/Black Hole DSP, and I go down these crazy sonic voyages, and it’s almost like meditation. Every once in a while I will throw a sequence in with the OT to cv converter to break things up. But, yeah. Fun to explore this stuff.

You nailed it for me with regard to it being like meditation. It’s definitely a catharsis for me.

I’ve been collecting the Verbos line as a sort of fix not to buy real Buchla. Now that there is those Buchla module made by Tiptop i’m just so happy to try them all hahaha.
I’m happy to have both as they have some very different sweet spot. I’d say for clean sounds and FM I prefer the 258t, for crazy waveshaping and weird sound I go for the Verbos.

Wait, they sell singletons?

Welcome to the moneypit!

No it’s bad, like 280HP bad. I’m so screwed. :stuck_out_tongue:

0-280HP in no time at all! Blimey, that will take some working out. I hope you got a bunch of patch cables with it, too!

Yeah I got all that but I definitely don’t wanna create a spaghetti monster.

My idea for now:

  • Bottom filled with a mixer and some easy controls (TMMTM maybe?)
  • Top row filled with FX modules.

I like my synths etc to be all separate devices.
