Anyone try the Moon Phase yet? I’m building a small stereo fx “sidercar” case to my main one and this filter seems like an ideal front-end to delay and reverb (or in this case, Veno Echo and Beads)… The sidebands and peak animation sound super lush.
Damn that is hot.
looking over this again, this is a filter less system right?
Yes that’s correct
I REALLY want to build an all Rossum system sometime.
that would be SO sick!
I had some Rossum stuff, sold for the $
but that modules are SO well made, and are so comprehensive. great stuff.
Wouldnt mind an all rossum except for the control forge and mob of emus, those ones look like a nightmare >.<
I think in those cases, you’d set them up how you generally would use them (take your time,) and then just use them more on the surface while playing.
And a crossfader / panner / dual VCA thingy. It’s DC coupled, so you can crossfade waveforms from the same oscillator for VC Wave Shape (aside from the usual stuff).
Just consolidated 5 cases into one…16U, 236HP. It’s on an electric sit and stand desk, with a matching desk top.
Definitely the last case I’ll be buying. The gap on the right is waiting for an Acid Rain Constellation to arrive. The left gaps are for new modules as and when. The Subharmonicon can also go back in its case when needed too, then it’s one in one out.
Next up is replacing all the cables hanging out the back to one loom - there’s several 2hp patchbay modules in the rack that route to 3 Apollo interfaces.
This is insane! What’s your favorite module?
Tough to nail it down to 1, but some favorites are Acid Rain Maestro, Instruo Neoni, Paratek Saturn (for percussion/metal sounds), ADDAC 112, Instruo Arbhar, SSF Entity Ultra Kick, and Patching Panda Ephemere.
You’re getting along with the ADDAC 112 okay? I had an eye on it, but the ModWIggler thread suggests that the firmware is essentially still in beta status.
néoni sounds quite lovely. Were I starting today, it might be one of my early purchases.
I really like the ADDAC 112, I only got it very recently, after a few beta FWs ago, so I was lucky enough to miss some of the teething problems. There’s still a few random bugs, but I generally like it. It’s not good for big grain clouds, but for the more sparse textures, I love it. Mostly for all the control you have over everything. Being able to put the control module elsewhere in the rack is also a bonus.
Yeah, I actually use the Neoni more than the Cs-L. It has a really wide sound palette, and I find it quicker/easier to get to a tone I want than with the Cs-L, although both are good.
…and not a Maths in sight! I didn’t know you were allowed to do that!
But seriously, this is amazing, so cool to see. How does your modular rig interface with those other items on the desk (looks like a couple Models, Microcosm, etc.)? Or are those separate setups?
Haha, no Maths was intentional by design
Everything is piped into the DAW (Live and Bitwig) via 3 Apollo units (X6, 8, and 16), analog ins and ADAT, and SPDIF for a total of 50 inputs. In the room, there’s also a Waldorf iridium, Hydrasynth, Argon8, Digitone, Cycles, Samples, and Microfreak. The two Euro effect modules (top left of the case), and the Microcosm are setup as send/returns in the DAW.
I had a 2 year creative block beforeI got into eurorack a few years ago. Getting into euro changed the way I approached everything. I was going in to the room playing around and getting frustrated that I wasn’t getting anywhere with creating output, which became a self fulfilling downward spiral. euro got me into just enjoying playing and experimenting again. Now I can spend all night in there, not create anything, and still really enjoy it, and not feel pressure to create/produce.
There’s something really freeing about building a patch, enjoying playing and exploring it for hours, then tearing it down back to blank slate again.
That said, I am slowly getting back into creating actual tracks, with a load of unfinished ideas and sketches.
Here’s the case on modulargrid in case you’re curious.
100% with you on this. Modular has helped me transition from a goal oriented view(producing output) on music to a process oriented perspective where being there in the present and having fun is what matters.
I don’t give a fuck about creating any output anymore. This (largely influencer driven) focus on being hyper productive and getting shit done is imo a bad thing.
Ironically I’ve recorded more stuff since I got my modular than throughout the rest of my life combined, and while 90% of it is unpolished jams and weird experiments I prefer it to all of my older stuff because I’m not aping after someone else or chasing some trend. For whatever reason when using my modular I feel completely liberated from any notions of what music even is and that has removed a lot of barriers for me that I didn’t even realize had been frustrating me for nearly two decades.
@ auditorycanvas nice case! and so many apollos!
Can I ask you what sample rate you are recording? 44.1 or 96? Any UAD plugin / unison preamp you would like to recommend for using on modular sounds? I feel sometimes it can get a bit spikey with recording from the modular. Also some sounds are all over the place in the frequency spectrum. To tame it a little helps for mixdown.
I totall get what others saying here. To record a live jam from the modular in one go, can be like already 80 - 90% of the track - if the performance was great. Yesterday I just had a listen to one of the live jams I recorded 2 months ago. And I asked myself, why I still “work on the mixdown” of some other tracks. That live jam has basically all I need. Maybe not optimum loudness or punch, but way more alive and interesting and also more musically thanks to tuned oscilators.
Ofcourse depending on your music,
I love mine!
