Yeah it looks cool, I’ve been tempted by the Teletype before (same concept, but you can plug in a usb keyboard and write code while the module’s running) but decided I already spend enough of my time programming haha. I think having to take the code file out of the module, edit it on computer, and then put it back is a dealbreaker for me with the Droid stuff.
Seriously tho even though I’m new to modular coming from a total hardware synth back ground I’m super excited to get my modular up and running. I think it maybe at lease another 2 months before I have something solid I can perform on.
I think I’m sorted for drums and sampler now tho so it’s a matter of watching tons of YouTube videos on Multi’s and all that kind of stuff now.
I’m now looking at some random sequencers for Acid type random basslines etc. There’s a few I like so far
Thanks for that! Seems it’s great for many things, but not so much live looping. Back to the drawing board
No havent tried yet, saw your post will check out soon and revert. Very excited about it, but always most say bit afraid toward complicated firmwire. Hope it will keep the straightforward approach of the module
Hey Rob!
I’m not meaning to meddle, but you keep mentioning yourself the costs getting out of hand. You’ve got a sick case by now, and I know from first hand experience how Eurorack can distract you from that, to focus on all the stuff you dón’t have. But take a moment to realize what a great collection of modules you already have. I’d advise to start hitting the brake and start diving into making work everything you have.
Not meaning any shade, just coming from experience with the addictive nature of Euro.
indeed one can spend infinite sums of money on new modules. I quit this year to focus on my gear and pay off more important bills. So far have met no gear challenge without any issues.
This is the best advice I think I was wanting to hear, I don’t mind meddling mate I take all the comments as sound advice. Any suggestions are most welcome here and yes you’re right about hitting the brakes. Think I’ll be able to focus on what I have for now. I’m mainly a drum and samples type of guy so I’ll get up and running this week and see how I go.
Although I could do with advice on a small headphone module to get started jamming?
Rob
Hi,
I haven’t really spent much doing the transition from hardware to modular just yet as Iv’e just sold stuff (hardware synths) to fund what I have so far. I’ll learn what I have before delving more in to other modules.
You’re welcome mate, and believe me when I say it comes from a place of similar experience.
Re: Headphones, I’d go for anything that’s fine and second hand, but that’s my route. Also it doesn’t really need User Interface tweaking so small should be fine. I went for the 4MS Listen In/Out which I like cause out ánd in, plus leds that show something of a ballpark figure of levels. I believe the small ALM headphone module is also popular.
Thanks for that mate I’m gonna check these suggestions out tonight. Deffo think I have enough drums and sampler to do some jams in 1 case for now.
I do have other cheap Behringer modules but don’t think I’ll use them until I’m ready to get myself another case just for those.
Sound advice I’ll try and get some sort of final setup posted by the end of the week, I’m excited
I have a bunch of synths and VSTs soft synths still but since buying lots of modular gear the past few years, been more focused on patching and learning the modules. Having a blast and new discoveries and happy accidents all the time. I don’t think that I will buy any new modules for a fe years since really only need the XAOC Devices Hrad expander for my Praga mixer and those have not been in stock and won’t be for long time.
Me too!
Nice collection and really nice desciptions!! I think thats also a good way to think about which module one really needs and uses and ofcourse which one is more of „nice to look at“
As you are having some frap tools modules. Did you ever thought about the quad stereo mixer? This thing was a missing link for me. Kind of little mixing desk to perform. And it has good stuff incl 2 sends, mutes, vca per channel and pan or 2 ins mixer/blender. As I have 12u 104 a mixer makes good sence.
Do you have any sound examples of the brenso? It has tons of functions. Just wondering if it sounds similar to dpo or more like the verbos.
I hadn’t felt the need for QSC before (I have a bunch of small mixers) but as I approach 12u x 104hp, it might make sense for me, also (though I have an underused external mixer).
I have a Sounds page with a few snippets that involve Brenso, but it may be hard to get a sense of the solo sound from them. The release video from Frap Tools is a good overview, and there are some good musical pieces by Eduardinho Branco (“studioutopia”) in the Brenso thread on ModWiggler (for example, this one). I think the range of sweet spots of this module is quite impressive.
Hello friends! Been lurking here for quite a while, figured I’d share where I’m at in my modular journey! I started out very small, as an attempt to make a small companion rack for the A4 based on physical modeling (plonk specifically). It was fun experience, but one big thing I learned through that is that I really hate tiny modules.
I also learned that I really love ALM and Intellijel modules for some reason, so I’ve been on a mission to make an ALM/Intellijel rack. Throughout all this I also started getting into DIY, and tinkering with 3d printing cases. So here’s my current ALMijell (with some special guests) rack. The case is fully 3d printed and I made all my own power cables as well, its powered by 2x 4ms power modules.
I also have more than this (a small dfam focused setup) and a small 64hp control/mixing rack with an ES-9 in it, I do all my mixing in VCV and I have to say the hybrid setup is incredibly fun for me!
ooosh that is a lovely setup, not much overlap with my setup but i can appreciate your choices, and that case is a winner
Little yam with Intellijel Metropolix, Moog DFAM, Mutable Plaits, Make Nosie Mimeophone / QPAS
Plaits / QPAS / Mime on the main voice. DFAM being a DFAM. Modulating everything with Maths / OCHD / Pams.
I built the NLC Dispersion Delay last week. It’s great for making crackly and noisy soundscapes.
Then yesterday I took delivery of a Morph 4. My brain is going into 4d mode trying to figure out how to use it in interesting ways. Gotta say that I love Joranalogue’s design choice to never use trimmers.
Next I’m getting the new Toppobrillo Mutlifilter and Joranalogue Step 8 once they are out. Especially Step 8 looks like it could be a future patch programming classic. Some stuff will have to go to make space. Also considering selling my 0-Coast. I think it’s a great synth but it has such a characteristic sound that I find it hard to integrate with the rest of my system.
