Your Commitment to Releasing Something in 2024

I use Ableton to record and I just export as individual tracks which bounces them down plus buses and sends.

As predicted, I still haven’t released anything by August. Lots of stuff cooking though, Iā€˜m optimistic that I might have released material for three projects by the end of the year :crossed_fingers:. Iā€˜m struggling with my solo EP right now, as I just want to finish and release but also don’t want to release it before it feels finished, especially since nobody is expecting anything from me.

It’s ā€˜finished’ when you save and share it.

Go for it.

just. post. your. music.

if you like it - someone else will like it.

btw, I don’t think this video was shared here, but worth a watch, very relevant.

I get the mentality of aiming for perfection but it’s far more productive to draw a line under each track and get onto the next one. I always think ā€œthere’s so much shite out there, mine isn’t that badā€ Enjoy, have fun, learn and grow.

Yeah I know and I try to follow that mentality myself. It’s not like I’m endlessly finetuning EQ on a kick or something. But I still need to record some vocals and give the stems to a friend who will improve the mix a bit. It will be worth it I think, no need to rush the thing Iā€˜ve worked on for a few months at the final stages.

To speak with @alechkoā€˜s words: If I like it way more after Iā€˜ve went the extra mile, someone else will also like it way more.

Fair enough, just be aware of diminishing returns on the time spent on the last 5-10% when you could be half way through the latest and greatest thing you make. Everyone is different though I appreciate that.

Yeah for sure. Iā€˜m confident Iā€˜m just sick of it and want to publish like it happened last time. Not quite there yet .

ive been releasing music like a madman this year. ive put 137 tracks on my soundcloud and put together 3 different mixtapes to compile my favorites out of the 137. over the past couple months ive had the old Kanye idea ā€œthree beats a day every day all summerā€ in my brain, even though im not doing that exactly, i can see how the practice is beneficial.

ive gone through some ups and downs in my personal life and with my general musical motivation, but pushing through those downs and riding the wave of the ups has produced some really fun tunes, even on days when i felt like i was totally out of juice. feels like im rolling up a big ball of proof that i can consistently make stuff that i like so when im feeling down about it i can look at that ball of proof and think ā€œwell shit i guess i can actually do itā€

What a great thing, congrats!

thank you! i am finding that building my own mountain of proof that i can do things is the best way to motivate myself, whether thats at the gym, in my personal relationships, with music, at work, etc. i think this mental shift largely came about from quitting drinking, i have become far more powerful as a human since.

I have been trying to self-release one full track every month since last year I believe. I have more than enough to cover this year but I am doing some prioritizing now. My absolute favorite is coming out on August 16th. Got bunch of house, techno and melodic house tracks for the rest of the year.
Each full track is a huge learning experience. I practice something different in each one, use a different trick, sound etc.

my progress so far in 2024, I’ve posted 36 tracks on youtube, most of them rytm only, and made 2 compilations on bandcamp.

the amount of feedback I’m getting for this is beyond my comprehension, people writing me emails asking permission to remix my music or videos, several people asked me to create a pateron and sell the rytm projects, and the most crazy is that although I’m not setting any amount on the bandcamp material some people buying the tracks, which is crazy to me honestly…

I have one more compilation which I didn’t publish yet because I want it to be mastered professionally, not for commercial reasons but only for the purpose of having ā€œa second opinionā€ from a professional, as much as I try to ā€œself-masterā€ my things I severely lack the experience and the environment to do it correctly, sometimes leading to some frustration that it takes me more time to finalize the recordings then actually recording them…

year is not over yet, I’m hoping to complete the project I designated somewhere in december 2023 to make the most of and publish tracks from, so far I’m at the end of bank E, which leaves me with 3 more banks to complete :mechanical_arm:

Update: Almost on the finish line with the extreme metal album. Now I just need to decide whether to shop it around or self publish? In case anyone is interested hearing it before the official release -> Let a DM light your way to the darkness.

On the other projects: I have an almost ready Synthwave album in the works. It was great to take 10 months off of it as now I see it only needs tiny amount of sheen. There’s also a very complicated IDM meets Orchestral + experimental album I’ve been sitting on for some years in hopes of finding a vocalist who can take on the challenge, but now I am thinking of just getting it out in the current form. And that Dub track? Probably coming out later this year.

11 songs (6 of them live vocal takes and 7 live tracks total) for my 1st album.
Even though it’s on the alternative rock side of the spectrum, I used my modular (424, In the Shadows), Octatrack, Digitone, Rytm, Rev2.

I have a dedicated thread below but from the 1st single to the last release, people got tired

congrats! I will take a listen later today!

Another month, another tune. Something a bit calmer for me.

I have 3 tracks submitted for release. Hopefully they are put out this year. It’s out of my control once I send them off. But regardless it just always feels so nice to finish up a track,

…it ain’t over 'til it’s over…i know…BUT, so far it seems, this year is just another round of ambitions that lead into nowhere…
seems like another year got lost in the big inbetween…another album title, i have the songs already pretty much wrapped 'n ready but for some reason won’t cross that real final finish line…

aaaaand when i see my ooh soo committed words here, i just feel selfashamed…
joined my publishers this years’ little summer party, for another anually meet 'n mingle…left it 2 hours later…
don’t know anybody there anymore…everybody was talking about the next ā€œnewā€ challenges how to face and deal and cope with all this where it’s at on the music/publishing/copyright/attention/mulitplication planet…

needs no rocket science anymore to built a space ship, i’m afraid…
