Lol what’s the story?
Hi guys. So I am working on some stuff and getting back into the flow of regularly working on music. Going great with my deadline of 10 ‘finished’ tracks at the end of the quarter.
I do notice I keep getting stuck in polishing and adjusting minor things like compression a lot. By that time I have heard the sounds/arrangement so many times it is pretty hard to make rigorous changes, even if necessary.
So what would you say is a ‘finished’ track? Something that only needs to get mixed? Maybe 80-90% of the arrangement done with a few minor tweaks left and then move on? I could then later decide to pick the tracks I want to send to labels and make those minor tweaks in a sort of final mixdown stage.
What is your workflow regarding this?
The professional approach would probably be to work on something else to refresh your senses
I think arrangements are what makes tracks finished.
Mix and fx are the cherry on top and can have a huge importance of the track. But if there’s no arrangement/story telling, a perfect mix or compressor setting isn’t going to finish the track for you.
It’s time for another album. I’ve mapped out how it should be structured and flow like and i am hoping it can all be accomplished on the new DT][.
Name written on the board with a due date of 2024
I did something similar when i got the SP 404mk2, but never bothered to release it on streaming services because i used way too many samples and i didn’t have any clue on how to obtain a release/clearance for them. Here’s the album if you’re curious:
I’m hoping that my DT][ album will be as fulfilling.
wanted to bump this thread and check in with everyone here

Meat Team is up to 5 episodes now
And another soundtrack collection is going to be released in about a month
Listen to Episode 5 - Faux by Meat Team on #SoundCloud
Two I’m proud of this year, better than I think I predicted up thread, and there’s undoubtedly going to be more:
great stuff, listened to both albums doing some TouchDesigner patches and had a blast
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed them.
16-track soundscape album was released in February:
New Videoscapes every month (just posted June’s as a public post on my Patreon) and I’m currently working on an alternative score for an old sci-fi flick. Between this and finally having my studio workflow nailed down I’m hoping to have a lot more stuff coming.
The once-a-month pace for website updates and a Videoscape is working nicely for me. 2024 is busy and I don’t anticipate it to stop either. Having some fun.
This year is going slow, but progress is being made. My extreme metal album turned into two albums and the first one is now 80% there. Aside from that I’ll hopefully be able get some dub stuff out by the end of the month.
Was going to try and release an album this year and enjoyed the process but only got as far as 5 tracks i was happy with and released as an EP.
Really enjoyed creating a variety of songs thinking how they will work together as in the past I walks made single tracks.
my latest is out now on DiN Records - https://dinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/portable-reality-generator-din85
glad to say the CDs sold out almost straight away on pre-order in the UK, but official release day is this friday so it’ll be available from Norman Records etc then
Download is of course available !
hope you enjoy if you check it. cheers
All songs have been pushed to a state where I only need to re-do some guitar/bass parts and pick-ups for vocals. The goal is to have an early mix version on tape/cd for hand to hand distribution at Beyond the Gates 2024!
Like I said earlier, im up to 5 episodes of Meat Team
I’m releasing the second volume of music from Meat Team on 8/15
August is upon us, Digitakt II been out for 3 months so it’s time to release some nice stereo samples/128 steps/insane trig conditions/master overdriven music!
don’t hold back, 2024 disappearing faster then it should!
Have teamed up for a project with two other guys who release on the label I’ve been on and it’s been amazing for productivity. We all have different styles but similar tastes and it’s just working so fluid. We have around 5 tracks finished in a few weeks and have signed an ep and sorted gigs locally and in Ibiza over the next few months.
We will be playing live with keys, guitar, synth, sampler and vox and having that goal has made it more exciting and certainly given us a clear goal.
Feels like the next step from the solo material and something I’ve always wanted to do and had few failed attempts in the past. Being connected online 24/7 and it being so easy to send each other stems, have a video call and bounce ideas instantly certainly helps as in the past it was meeting up physically which is limiting with time and availability
Good times
That sounds awesome, congrats!
have you found a good way of bouncing stems? i see a lot of options but never really found a sure fire winning recipe for it!
As a way of forcing myself to learn more and to have a record of my progress I self imposed a ‘post a track a month’ at the start of this year. I listen back to earlier tracks and immediately know where I could have improved things so that shows it’s working for me. Inadvertently I’ve also started making basic vids too as I get more interaction with YouTube. The track and video I’m most pleased with so far is this one:
Oh and having Ballacid have these on his own channel massively boosted my confidence that I’m headed in the right direction.
