Umm, wow. OK
I can’t tell if this is shit in amazing synthwave retro way, or just plain shit
Ordered it from Thomann. It says “On request”. They’ll probably have it soon. What I love about them is that you can pay at delivery
Also, from the video I posted earlier, the guy said that whatever you sample, you can use the app to rename, tag, favorite, so you can load them. If that allows us to load them into drums & synths, now this is wild.
I can imagine freeing up tracks by resampling into the sampler and use it to trigger one shot loops basically, or sampling acoustic stuff and loading into drums & synth.
If it hits the sub £399 point some have seen and believe it will then this thing will make a big splash. I only see £450 online at the moment.
I should really hold onto that M8 money though… MUST RESIST.
This thing has no screen and is dependent on an app. Apis stop getting updated.
I’ve seen people even now getting good use out of Yamaha grooveboxes from the 1990s. Because they are fully functional and not dependent on software aka “apps”.
I sold my AN-200 back in the days because of that. I loved the sound, but some critical sound design options (like EQ) were only accessible using the app, which was… only compatible with Windows XP. Bummer.
When the app works as an added feature, why not. But in the video they already said that some features were only accessible using the app, so that’s a no for me. OPZ can at least function entirely without the app (and that’s how I use it).
With a lot of synths and drum machines I buy these days, I always think “If only this came with some 2000s era 3D clip art”. Finally my prayers are answered
Might that be a reference to the animation feature ?
I await the Loopop review for clarification.
The visuals feel somewhat reminiscent of Amiga 3D or other early computer demos. Some people will quite enjoy that quaintness I think.
No, they said that some FX and settings are only visible to the app.
Usually i would be “yeah, true”, but here it is a concession for it to
a) be as small as it is (no space for screen), and
b) the price.
It supporting 3 major platforms (and probably Linux to with wine) makes it so that in worst case you will be able to use it with a virtual box wrapper in 10 years. At least the windows version.
And the OPZ…all parameters? Does it have the same amount of parameters= im not sure how comparable it is.
The same functionality with a screen would mean that its bigger, probably more expensive, and that the screen would need to be smaller then probably most smartphone screens.
When I saw the microphone to record samples I was hoping they would show off some kind of Yamaha VSS-30 thing, where they turn a sample into some cool lofi Sigur Ross atmospheric thing. Instead it was just a straight forward playback. Bummer. Will definitely keep an eye on this though to see its capabilities, but none of the demo tracks they have posted are that interesting so far.
I missed it, does it sequence external gear?
your dirty ain’t my dirty
nah, meant some onboard external midi sequencing tracks
Anyone know if it can export stems?
US$599.00 list on Yamaha Site, so £399 definitely a possibility in sales…
It’s showing as £349 on Andertons
Yeah looks like the price is moving while retailers work things out
Yamaha SEQTRAK (Black) Music Production Studio - Music Matter
also 349! The Bastards! Stop tempting me!
Threw together a quick comparison of the OPZ and Seqtrak for my latest blog post
If this is accurate, Seqtrak is considerably bigger and comes in with about 1/2 the estimated battery life.
At first glance, it‘s ticking all the boxes.
