Yamaha SEQTRAK

looks like it’s just some low level libs collection for embedded systems, not really a RH product but something maintained by people who work there, and the docs are just a copy paste of that lib license

People gotta stop trying to make that ring controller a thing.

It’s a not a thing

The plastic housing looks very cheap. Like the ones you see on toy pianos. I hope I‘m wrong.

Everything contains open source software these days. Even Mpc. Even iPhones. They’re legally obliged to state that

depends on the license of the OSS but yeah, most of them require some sort of attribution

$399. Cmon, why is everyone so critical. It’s not an S2400 or MPC live 2 or a Digitakt.

It’s cheap…for a reason. Might be fun for portable take anywhere noodling.

VISUALIZER

wow, the App is like a Pro Version of the OP-Z one but really similar. The Visual aspect and the way you can map the inner controls + the amount of real-time actions is basically a Unity Engine running in real-time ;()

My first impressions are definitely positive even though it’s not really the sort of thing I would be looking to use currently. The control layout with all those side buttons does have me somewhat bemused, I’m looking forward to seeing reports of people’s experiences with it. I’d quite like to see what Jon Makes Beats could do with it…

I wonder if they could have made better use of the space if they removed the speaker, changed the light up text labels to EP-133 style icons, then fit more of the most used buttons onto the face of the device instead?

Peter Kirn claims in in his writeup that the Phillips PMC 100 is the true ancestor of this thing, not anything by TE

The underlying sysex implementation is definitely similar to the Yamaha QY/MU line. Feels like a QY-100 crossed with an OP-Z to me.

Edit: with some DX/AN 200 thrown in for good measure

the 4-Page scheme IS TE logic.

the way some shortcuts are implemented are straight from the Z

Just double checked, Synth 1 and 2 are basically tweaking sample-based presets. Nothing deep at all. Unfortunately, for those that like to create their own sounds, it only has the one editable FM synth per pattern. I personally think I’d get a bit bored using this after a while. Still might try one though

… and it would look amazing together with the EP-133 K.O. II …

Edit: Amiga > this bad mapped torus

On the synth yes, i’ve peeked the data list, if you look at page 120 onwards you see the total list of synth engine parameters like envelopes, filter, waves, lfo etc etc

I think i’m out on this.
Looks great, but feels even better to pass the gas… have the gas pass? haha

Edit: I think you mean the sounds. The Waves themselves aren’t accessible for editing from the app. It’s basically a ROMpler.

Had a look at the app demos now, and you are indeed onto something. Very limited editing capabilities, only a little more than from the synth itself (much like the op-z app)

That sucks hard, seems the only full engine editing can be through third party. And if it’s only sysex and no nrpn then you have to send the whole patch when making changes? Ugh…

Edit: this is very Roland MC-101 actually. Maybe an update down the road with full editing capabilities

indeed. I’m afraid these side button would irritate the hell out of me very soon though.

Depending on how hard they are to push they may also be somewhat of an ergonomic issue for people with hand problems (me).

Looking at the sysex there are more parameters for filters/envelopes/lfos, but the AWM2 synth have always been sample based and the oscillator section is just a preset selection.

The sysex makes it look like you can maybe route line/usb audio through the FX engine though, making it even more interested in pairing this with a mono synth for a basic setup (Especially if the SEQTRAK can do midi out fairly well.)
