Hello all,

I can get a brand new 01V96i now for ÂŁ899 says it streams 16 channels over usb
I like the price it seems way more expensive at other stores and they have 8 left in stock and drivers etc are still updated in 2021
It arrived this morning it looks pretty cool indeed but very heavy… I’m looking to buy an expansion card for it also.
I’m wanting some extra inputs for a drum machine and wondered what won these would be the best to buy?
or
Basically TRS v D-Sub is the question
Thanks
Rob
…d sub is more for live missions…
if ur on home studio ground, trs might be the better choice…
Yeah it would just be home studio setup… so happy with thus mixer although it could be a long learning curve but worth it. I’m reading the manuals today and probably keep a pdf reference manual on screen as I set it up…
…yeah…was about to warn u on the deepness of those yamaha mixers…
but then u made already ur decision…
but when it comes to digital hardware mixing enviroments, they all offer pretty much the same level in complexity and learning curve…
and if it’s for studio use only, u defenitly made the better choice with the yamaha…
D-Sub sure would be handy if you have rack gear with D-Sub outs. Or a snake. Less clutter.
I have zero experience with these newer Yamahas, but I believe the A/D conversion happens on the expansion board. Is the MY8-AD24 44.1/48 kHz, whereas the MY8-AD96 96 kHz?
If the 01V96i can record 16x simultaneous channels over USB, is it restricted to 44.1/48 kHz? Maybe only 8 simultaneous at 96 kHz? That’s how the older boards worked.
Not sure, I’ll look at the manual later. I use to install the older Yamahas in MLAN networks, so I’m interested again.
If I play live I just have a Mackie 1402 vlz4 I wanted the Yamaha 01V96i mainly to have in the home studio only. This thing has a lot of features however I still want to expand it for another 8 inputs as it already has ADAT which I can connect 8 more with the ADA8200 gives me lots of options now.
Hi these are the specs
https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/proaudio/mixers/01v96i/specs.html#product-tabs
…yup…add the lightpipes and u never have to think about further input options again in ur life…
same with recording…no one really needs more than 16 channels for recording at once in 48 k…
at least in home producing terretory…
if ur recoding software recognizes this desk fine, and latency should be also quite reasonable to work with, keep in mind first what ur daw can do, instead of diving way to deep into the yamahas way of thinking…
Well if you’re using the ADA8200 then you’re locked at 44.1/48 kHz anyway. What are using as your master clock?
Not sure what to use yet… got a few options there.
Edit: The MY8-AD24 is single speed. MY8-AD96 is double-speed.
Page 16 of the Reference Manual.
And this: When the internal sample rate is set to double-speed (88.2/96 kHz), only 2 of the internal FX processors are available.
The 4x SPX2000-based effects processors are really nice, and can be tempo-synced. Some good DJ-style FX too.
If you plan on using the ADA8200 as well, then it’s either 44.1 or 48 kHz, overall.
Nice that the Steinberg Yamaha USB driver supports Windows 10 64bit, and older. Looks like Catalina isn’t support just yet.
Hi for what I want to do 44.1 is fine. I’m going through the manual today. I haven’t actually hooked anything up to the mixer yet but I’d like to hear what these FX sound like compared to plugins and hardware I already have. I’ll try it out later this week.
That’s it. It appears that the sample rate can be either single or double-speed per-slot, depending on which card is installed.
Hi what card would you suggest or would you buy if it were you buying? Also I see that the mixer has x4 FX available at 44.1 says here

Use the desk for a bit to make sure it works for you before investing in a card. These mixers hold goo second hand value, the cards not so much.
Yes I think that’s what I’ll do, good advice thanks. Just wanted opinions for which card I should maybe get later my plan was to use these extra inputs for one of the drum machines.
Yup, its 4x SPX effects processors, or 2x when run at double-speed (88.2/96 kHz).
Some of those FX were cutting-edge, but it’s been ~20 years, so plugins have certainly caught up.
I like to hot-swap cables so I’d go MY8-AD24. But if I had a patchbay with D-Sub… Ah, too many options!
