Write-Protected Kits?

Hey everyone!

The other day I found myself in a scenario where I accidentally saved over one of my favorite kits. Although in the end, it was my fault, I started looking through the manual/posts for anything related to write-protect.

Someone asked a similar question here…(should I be posting in this thread instead of making a new one?)

Since it looks like there is only write-protect on the Project level and not for Kits, is there anything you’ve done to help avoid saving over stuff? I feel like the best thing to do would be to copy everything somewhere, but at the same time I’m not sure how practical that really is.

Similar to the Copy/Paste/Clear function, I found myself immediately wishing I could “Undo” the mistake I made of saving a fresh new Kit over a dope old one.

What’s everyone’s thoughts?

Thanks a ton

Yikes, I think it’s best just to be super careful since there is not such a feature. Also, I wouldn’t really wish for such a feature since it seems like too many steps to reasonably go through. I think you simply must remain conscious of what you’re doing at all times and this is like putting your hand on the stove and realizing that it’s hot and will in fact burn you. I don’t know what else to say but maybe you can make backup kits (duplicate) or backup projects?

Also, if you’re using Overbridge maybe you can load a Total Recall state save?

Or maybe save the project with the modified kit as a new project and then reload the original project which you wish to restore the kit from?

I hope that helps in the future. Happy music making!

Well this wouldnt help your current situation, unfortunately, that totally sucks!
But, lately ive started saving favorite sounds to the +drive(is that what its called?), or where ever presets are saved to.
Its been pretty rad to have a library of sounds ive made for quickly putting together kits and then adjuating to taste without losing the original sound

wouldn‘t be a problem if kits were global! feature-request@elektron.se … the more people write the higher the chance of the implementation!

If you happen to have a backup of the project (Transfer, Overbridge Total Recall), or a saved copy of the project, you can recover your lost Kit.

  1. If necessary restore the Backup via Transfer or perform Total Recall sync using the plugin state.
  2. Open the restored/recalled/saved-copy project on the Rytm.
  3. Open the Kit menu, select “Load Kit” to display the kits.
  4. Select the Kit you want to restore and “Func + Copy” it.
  5. Open your original project with the lost Kit.
  6. Repeat step 3.
  7. Paste the Kit via “Func + Paste”.
  8. Save the original project.

Yeah, I had a feeling there isn’t much I can do about this other than plan ahead for next time.

However, I did not know about the Total Recall feature, so thanks for the heads up!

I see what you mean, makes sense. I’m going to write them now!

Wow…thanks for the detailed, step-by-step instructions!

I will keep this in mind and follow this moving forward.

Thanks so much for taking time to help me out!

I’ll have to test this out for myself.
