WoFI from Kiviak Instruments

Yeah, it seems like a keyboard sampler should have portamento/glide.

And it looks like it only samples in mono, which is a bummer.

Yeah you’d think any sampler that can play chromatically would have portamento… But DT, OT, Microsampler, Blackbox, Tangerine, SP404mk2, PO33, M:S, Smpltrek, Polyend Play (sample player), S2400, WoFi, etc. etc. can not. Used to be standard.

I used to play samples with portamento on my old Akai S2000. And i just tried it with the Microfreak and yes, it can do it too with the latest firmware.

Just to update my own comment, someone had asked about stereo sampling on the Kickstarter page, and this was in part of a response from the company:

ā€œin the actual firmware, you can record from stereo source to mono sample (probably in a future firmware stereo samples will be supported)ā€

and MPC has portamento/glide for a while now lol

…op-1 hast portamento too. I passed the chompi, and i will pass the wofi. I’m sure they’re both great devices, but i stick to my trusty 11 years old vintage op-1…

What happens to Kickstarters when they don’t meet the goals?

Have you ever seen the movie, ā€œOld Yellerā€?

The WoFi has been funded and the fund raiser is over. They just squeaked by !

Many other funders open a page at Indiegogo for people to pre-order. We’ll see if Kiviak does this.

They have already put up an update on KS which lays out next steps for them. The update has a link to a recent article about how Kiviak approached the KS campaign, and launching a new product. The WoFi is pretty far along with development, so this project looks more safe schedule-wise.

Also a fresh demo video from yesterday, they have had a few recently.

Yeah only 7 months after it was suppose to release lol, at least it’s not like that sh101 clone. Could always be worse

I mean, I go into any kind of Kickstarter with the full realization that it may fail and I may never see anything, but also if the product is actually released it will ALWAYS be super late. If I can’t afford to lose that bet, I do not make the bet.

I view loaning friends money through the same lens.

Yeah so I just got mine yesterday, didn’t really play with it until today and I am very disappointed.

So many problems
-Speaker doesn’t work
-Some buttons have to pressed insanely hard or repeatedly
-The envelope values keep moving, which just reverts back to the screen meaning I can’t do anything on
-Some of the buttons are off, looks like the rubber underneath is not fully cut
-The brightness for some reason can’t be adjusted
-The keys aren’t level or flush
-The OS is so buggy and lags when I change a value

This is just me using it for 20 minutes, not sure what else I’ll find

Bummer

Ah Niko I’m sorry to hear. I opened mine up and turned it on tonight but the first time and didn’t notice anything odd but honestly I just poked around with the presets a bit.

My speakers definitely work though, even though I eventually ran it into some speakers.

My biggest complaint is with the granular effect. I will probably not ever use it as it’s not really controllable much. Would rather have a good reverb or delay but I’ll run it through some pedals.

It’s definitely interesting. Build quality also seems to be quite good, at least from what I see. Maybe I need new glasses?

Anyways, I hope they’ll get it a new unit. It sounds like you got the one that fell off the top shelf and got totally rattled.

… does it have automatic pitch note detection for anything you sample into it?

Sorry to hear about it Niko. I got mine and it has loads of problems, as well. OS is absolutely bonkers - values randomly changing, LFO ā€œlearnā€ only goes to pitch.

If I sample into it (watching levels, of course), any chords I play beyond 2 or 3 notes with a long release become a click and pop glitch fest. Also, one key on the keyboard only triggers about 80% of the time.

Hopefully Kiviak replace these units quickly.

Funny thing is I am still pretty excited about it haha, especially after hearing about aodyo fiasco I am just happy it was delivered

For real. I had initially backed the Aodyo but had to cancel as it was a really bad financial decision for me. What a bummer.
Did everyone see that there’s a new firmware either released or coming soon for this? I didn’t read what’s involved… only saw that they announced it.

100% Niko - I’ve wanted a simple sampler keyboard like this for a long time.

I think the new firmware just got posted on their website
