Will there be Octatrack MK3 anytime soon?

Probably not for at least another year or so is my guess. Elektron seems busy ramping up production on the Digitone 2/Digitak 2 and getting all the hardware/firmware/software sorted out on those updated models. I would love for Elektron to re-issue the MachineDrum with same great sound but modern user interface.

To paraphrase Mario in the recent EZBOT live stream, “The dev team in Sweden is smaller than you might think… they really only work on one thing at a time.”

What do you mean ?
Digitakt has been drastically improved. What do you expect for Digitakt 2 ?
They recently released a new OS for Syntakt, then Digitone 2, work on Overbridge, bug corrections…

I really don’t understand what makes you think they are quiet and have plenty of time to focus on something new…

I’d say more than one considering above, anyway the “to do” list must be long…

Just give them ~6 months to fix the firmware after each release and then its fine… New HW can be released

In 2030 Behringer will launch the Octasamp. An Octatrack clone with audio over USB.

I’m just glad the Mk2 is in production. If it was discontinued right now, I’d still be happy to carry on using my Mk1, and I’d buy another if it broke, Mk1 or Mk2, don’t really care. I don’t have enough spare time to run out of things to do with it, and all seven of the OTs I’ve owned at various points have been bought second hand. None of them have ever gone wrong. A bit sticky to the touch mind, but functionally they just keep going. So I’ll keep going.

The OT is awesome. I don’t care if there’s a Mk3 or not.

Yup, seven. Mainly because every now and then I’ve decided to flog it because I want to buy something else and need the cash to do so, couple of times I flogged all my studio gear due to redundancy. I’ve never lasted more than 6 months before just having to get another. Current one is a very scrappy looking Mk1 with a set of glow in the dark knobs on it. Partnered with a DN which is minty condition so they look a funny pair

Oh, forgot to add - I did once have two OTs at once, it was a bit mental, even for me…

Well well, most similar companies these days are doing many updates soon after release. Many people discredit TE but they released 5 or 6 updates whithin 6 months after the release of the OP-1F. It’s a small company too and they were working on different projects as well.

That said, I don’t blame Elektron, I just thought they might be working on something else and yes, they also released the DN2.

PFFF MK3, I’m thinking two steps ahead and waiting for MK5!!

A step is 7 years, between MKI and MKII.
MKIII will be released in 2024…
MKV will be released in 2038…

7 years ago they released 6 new machines in roughly one year…
AH JAN’17 , DT MAY’17, OTmk2 OCT '17, A4+AR mk2 NOV’17, DN FEB’18… so anything can happen?

(although in the release notes of OTmk2 AE there’s this: From 2010 to Eternity…? :man_shrugging:)

We have yet to define what MK2 means. I would not call a change of paint and a few buttons a second iteration of the machine.

Less buttons and no screen for next version…
