Why should I pick Digitakt 2 over Tonverk?

When it comes to hardware I like it simple  still can’t deny there would be some cool possibilities… especially with external synths

Digitakt has (for all practical purposes) no latency

Why wouldn’t you pick the DT2 over TV?

Use case context always helpful

Exactly. I know which one I’d pick because I already did and know why

Will the Tonverk parameter lock sample start position?

still haven’t seen any video of anyone using the Digitakt 2 and the Tonverk in a comparable way.

You can certainly sequence a poly synth as well, the MIDI tracks of the Digitakt are poly and extremely capable.

And I wouldn’t skip the onboard effects, even if you use OB the delay is a pretty critical tool and I resample drum hits through a tempo synced delay constantly so I can have delay on multiple tracks. That way you get delay even when you record the individual tracks through OB.

I see people calling the DT2 “simple” but even after owning the Digitakt (and now DT2) since 2017 I am still finding new interesting things to do all these years later…I wonder how many people are really using it to its full capability? The TV seems absolutely bananas but in a different way to the DT2.

Yeah

I see simplicity as a good thing. And by simple I mean having fixed routing, everything in the same places etc. That’s the reason I love mine. I bought it to get out of the choice paralysis in Ableton and it has worked really well. And I still think Digitakt is very deep indeed. Now looking at Tonverk I already see subtracks as ”drum racks” and tbh I don’t like the feeling at all

In general the crucial difference between DT and TV is polyphony? TV is more interesting than DT2, in terms of sound palette, but it depends on what you are using it for. I watched some TV performances that sound more or less like my Syntakt, And I was like, dude, Syntakt is cheaper. And I became intrigued by TV - is it that bad? But it turns out you need other synths to make TV shine.
Another question: Can you use multi-samples that were multi-sampled by, say, MPC Software, in your TV? I usually multi-sample software synths in MPC Software and load them into my Akai Force to use as multi-sampled instrument. I have a lot of libraries, and it is very interesting. I’m ready to part with my DT and Syntakt to be able to play samples polyphonically.

Can TV sample over USB? Say I want to sample software instrument and I don’t have an audio interface with midi ports. In this case TV should send MIDI over USB and get audio from software synth to sample notes.

It’s a lot more than that. Memory, effects, routings, etc. Just two wildly different machines.

Really? I love my Syntakt to bits, but don’t see the correlation.

Other synths are always nice, but I don’t understand this statement. I probably wrote 10 pieces of music on my TV before I ever sampled anything. Of course I will (and have) start sampling other synths soon because, it’s a sampler

No idea what’s best for you, but the Syntakt is very special in its own way. I sold my OG DT, but Syntakt? No way

Digitakt has the “Control All” Feature and other useful tricks relating to the reload button combos and AFAIK reload functions per encoder page are completely missing on TV.
Navigation/ improvisation around saved states on TV is not as cool and easy as on the digis.

I second your sentiments about Ableton wholeheartedly. But have only positive things to say about subtracks.

DTII is stereo, you’re thinking of the OG DT.

You’re more limited with the way effects work on sub tracks on TV, which effectively limits the TV to 8 ‘DT’ style tracks. I might be more tempted by an OT for that job over a TV personally.

Sorry yeah. I also meant mono sequencing vs the TV’s polyphony across 8 audio and 4 MIDI tracks; with Digitakt being mono sequencing internally and 4 note if sequencing something external.

yea i dunno, I’m writing an album on tonverk atm. Just the verk & a mobile phone for sampling.

I’ve got both and the DT2 is a UX marvel where mostly everything is quick and easy to reach. TV feels less so because it is deeper with more routing destinations. Note that this only is in comparison with DT2 as the TV would take DT2’s place in that comparison vs non-elektron boxes.
