Should have mentioned the 5v thing. The only downfall of those doepfer cases. Can’t believe you’ve ordered so much already. I am jealous. You’ll be over taking me in no time. I am just about to order a function then I will get either a MMG or optomix in two weeks.
Maths looks chaotic/inspiring due to the design and placement decisions they made for the panel/ui.
But it is basically a module with tastefully combined simple utilities.
The latest manual helps seeing that.
Make noise modules differ from traditional elementary modules (e.g. doepfer osc) in the same way ICs differ from basic electronic components. they somehow combine elements in them, making them very inspiring and effective/compact.
I just ordered function. Didn’t have space for maths. I’ll get a maths further down the line. It is indeed a very compact module though. Clock division, slew, envelope follow, lfo ASR etc. it does so much.
No worries, I’m getting one of those Volts-chips in from Sweden, so should be here in no time. Yeah, I’ve managed to sell a lot of stuff over the past month to get a good start, alas I’m now dead broke, so probably won’t be able to finance another module for a while (depends on the next pay check, which I suspect won’t be sufficient for the next target - Frames). It seems a good start though, just looking forward to it getting here.
One more a4 ->modular user here. Also in norway.

Hey! Cool, would love to hear some of the sounds you’re squeezing out of your setup (and what is your current setup?). I was reading the manual quite a bit before I got Maths, and didn’t understand a lot of it, but once I hooked it up and starting fooling around with it, it was very intuitive to use. I used the manual for reference every now and then though. It seems to be the swiss-knife of the Eurorack format, so many inputs and outputs and knobs, I love it already!

Oh yes, you need one. Just by toying around with it and the Gieskes, I can tell that it’s going to be a massively useful module. It could easily be the brain of the entire modular operation, I think. Well worth it!
Now, back to noodling, waiting for the mail to arrive …
+infernal noise machine+A4+OT+minibrute+LXR at the moment
notice the empty space there? itching like hell…
i’ll need to pick and upload a recent recording somewhere, or pm me your email
Nice! Looks good. Did you start with a Pittsburgh cell? How do you like the Rene? I’m looking to add that at some point down the line. Register for a Soundcloud and upload something!
I have a soundcloud account, but need to select recordings and upload something worth sharing
Started with the a111-5, then parts of the ptt cell, then rene, and so on. I like multifunctional swissknife modules (obviously) and traditional voicing with exotic control possibilities.
The 111-5 is usually the main voice of the modular and the ptt synth module usually acts as a very flexible lfo+the additional functions you can isolate and use on it.
Two things that could help selecting modules are:
a) Use of nord modulars (or similar) that helps selecting things that don’t need to be sold in a month
b) Realisation that not all studio needs to be mounted in a rack. Quite some external gear interact great with the modules and help saving space and money.
Rene is very good. I was sceptical about the possible overlaps with elektron sequencers, but it is a completely different story and many more functions than the obvious are possible with it. The note selection page is instantly musical for example.
I had my first jam with my Octatrack and a friend’s modular a little over a week ago and have been planning to dive in ever since.
I am especially interested in FX and signal processing. I have the OT and A4. I am for sure getting the Make Noise Echophon and some kind of frequency shifter, as well as a filter or two. What other suggestions would you have for interesting signal processing options? And I already have a bunch of guitar pedals I will want to interface as well. Do I really need a module for that or can I just plug them in?
I may get an oscillator or two (DPO is looking good, though I might also go wavetable since I have the A4 already).
Is there stuff that you use the A4 for in particular (i.e., you don’t buy an LFO because the A4 can do it)? I’m wondering how to plan around what I already have and not duplicate unnecessarily.
Looks pretty interesting.
you can get the halls of vahala reverb card for it now too…I seriously considered getting the z-dsp for external effects instead of going with a timeline and space
Ah, hadn’t seen that one. I’m definitely getting a Rene at some point! Damn.
René is badass that I even put my tetra up for sale to get one despite not having the rack space for one.

Can’t recommend the DPO enough, very different to the OSC on the A4 & of course you can use the A4 LFO on the CV track to modulate it!
For wavetable & general digital goodness I like the Cyclonix Cyclebox 2
You can get an expander for it which opens up functionality & adds an LFO too!
I was initially planning to get a Planar as well, but was completely sold on the Frames when I saw some videos. The morphing/scene-stuff it does sounds fantastic, basically a much higher resolution than the Planar, it seems, and you have the ability to “p-lock” the different steps, which you can’t do with the Planar.
