Where is the DT2/DN2 update love?

Ok, but they are not. Bugs are something happening that shouldn’t, or something not happening that should - not the absence of functionality.

I also saw Sean Booth from Autechre mentioning that feature. Should be a no brainer.

Page loop is great and but the machine doesn’t remember it when you leave a pattern, making it useless for composing and chaining patterns.

Its still a good feature for composing though. I can mix up the pages or switch between individual pages to develop the groove or idea im working out.

Far from being useless, it’s been huge for me in terms of composition. One of the most important new additions for me, can’t imagine being without it now.

So for background I am speaking as someone who designs eurorack modules, so I generally take designers perspectives on things.

You are correct that these are basic requests. But the problem is that there is literally no end to basic requests, so the team have to prioritize, and no matter what some user’s requests are going to get missed.

I can make a short list of “basic” features I and others want from DT2.

Global sample volume adjustment
Normalization toggle
Sample zoom
Track layering
Track swap
Better midi polyphony ala DN2
Modulation envelope
Sample crossfading
Ping pong sample playback
Ability to modulate /sequence FX tracks
Midi arpeggiator
Audio Arpeggiator
Quantized recording start without having to stop sequencer
Adjustable number of steps per sequencer page

I can go on and on for days like this. These are very complex devices and they have a lot of people all wanting something a bit different. And every single one of those people can probably think of a list of at least 5 things that they really wish the device could do, many of them pretty “simple”.

Also there’s the part where “simple” updates to existing devices don’t do much to help sales, so there is definitely a pressure for the firmwares they release to have big features, rather than just quality of life stuff.

This is where it would be nice for Elektron to have one of those feature request sites. People can submit/upvote different features. Would keep everything more organised and give objective data on what the most popular requests are.

Its been awhile since I’ve touched my hardware, DTII being my main device. After spending so much time with Renoise, DTII just felt so rough. So many clicks and pops, especially working with single cycles. Having not heard or dealt with that in some time it was really bumming me out. I love this device but they really gotta do something about that. Some new fx would be really cool but I’d kill to just have the loop issues fixed.

Yes, but I’m happy for the A4-owners (which includes myself) !

The Analog Four is an absolutely amazing synth. Nice to see it getting some love too, although already feeling pretty solid and full fledged as it is, IMO. Looking forward to test the new firmware tho. Maybe soon, hopefully before the summer holidays starts, we’ll see a little lovey-lovey for the DT2/DN2 too!

It would also be susceptible to all the biases of self selection, IE the biggest and most knowledgeable elektron fans would be the ones on that site, and so all the deepest most complicated features would get up-voted, potentially making the devices less inviting to new users.

I like to feel I summoned this update by pulling my A4 off the shelf the other day and battering out a beat on a whim :joy:
