Yes feels formulaic. Theres no magic dust
the whole thing is an anaemic BoC imitation, but yeh the percussion is a dead giveaway.
Sounds like they did no mixing on them drums. Too harsh. The melody is quite good though.
I’m gonna be a jerk [I can’t seem to help myself] and say that that melody is pretty empty.
this seems to be the artist who made this track. there is only one other track online
which sounds a bit less like boc, I guess
Sounds more like Tycho when he was in his BoClone days. it’s SO on grid…
There’s a guy that made patches for the AN1x who KINDA got the vibe. But not quite. And the dude that did the “VHS find” tracks that kinda got it, but not quite.
I found out who it was and found his other tunes where you can hear that…ya it was him that did it.
Ive had Boards of Canada on my musical radar since around 1999, and have always had a place for them in my musical world, but im one of the ones who had just kinda let them wash over me…
“Boards of Canada? Fuck yeah, put em on, i know em, the warbly synth guys, yeah?”
I think they came into my world through the Anticon link. Clouddead, Odd Nosdam, et al. (@palm i feel you on Doseone’s lyrics. I loved them back in the year 2000 but now i actually cringe when i hear em)
But holy fuck .
I have only very recently given them the critical ear, and goddamn has it been rewarding. What an amazing body of work from two incredible artists.
Its nice to suddenly realize that the thing youve been hearing for so long that you thought was just kinda fluff is actually a painstakingly crafted, sculpted, meticulously honed piece of artwork that calls on your very own sensory memories and warps time into this beautiful, baleful, thing that is both extremely comforting and unsettling at the same time.
Music for dissociative anesthetics indeed.
People are right… nobody quite does what they do like they do it.
Id hope to hear more from them but if Tomorrows Harvest is how they went out? then hats off to them. What a way to go. That album will be one i listen to for the rest of my life and continue to find new things in.
Bless their hearts. They did an amazing job. They did it and they won.
I’ve always heard the BoC in that track, 20 years early.
Ya I’d been dissecting them since 1998.
I didn’t like it much when I first heard it cuz I was DEEP into Ae. But while sitting in my car waiting for my laundry, giving Music has the Right another chance…Pete Standing Alone punched me in the gut when I heard this kick sound I’d never heard. And it was that kick that set me off and got me LISTENING. Then after that I actually HEARD that breakdown at the end and it fucking blew my mind. And off I went digging hard.
There was some dude, maybe BoC, leaking shit on the now way defunct AudioGalaxy. I kept digging there and tracks would up and disappear. It was a fun hunt. And then scouring their old websites that had all the cryptic shit on them. And hidden links….the good ol’ oldish days.
And I listen to that shit as hard today, as I did back then. Which kinda weirds me out a little.
I don’t have the deep knowledge of all their output the way many of their fans do. But, just have to add how much I love their remixes (as Hell Interface) of Trapped and Magic Touch.
I definitely feel that this is a standout track off that album
Speaking of covers, Datassette did a cover of Kaini Industries some years ago, and put his own spin on it:
@BuzzLightsout here’s some stuff…
Also posted before but way back.
I can’t find the “I’ll be gone about a week” sample. It’s at the start of Season of the Witch.
I think this was inspiration for Chinook, it was in Societas X…which seems like it was a compilation of influences.
AudioGalaxy was fuggin great. what an awesome way to learn about cool music
j
what about the live version of sunshine recorder? …sprinkled with telephasic workshop vibes
