What's your latest purchase & what are your intentions with it? [pics ftw] (Part 3)

I’m afraid I don’t really have enough experience with a variety of acoustic guitars to say. (The difficulty of switching up is a big downside to having learned left-handed, and I’ve stuck with a couple guitars I liked.) I’ve heard this about opening up, second-hand, with Martin’s especially, but I can’t claim to hear a dramatic evolution in the Blues King’s tone over the years. If it’s not exactly what you expect, maybe it’s not a match.

Genelecs are excellent. Punchy and clear in the bass and down mids. But of course a sub would get you are he last 15-20 hz below the 45hz at which these Genelecs are starting and being astonishing.
If you are afraid youre „cheap“ sub doesnt handle the freq split and signal trough to the Genelecs a monitor-controller with additional sub output would be a solution.

Thanks for the input!

its a lovely sounding little thing i am perfectly happy with it - just wondering about your experience seeing as yours is older than mine and had time to develop its tone

Normally i would suggest to just use the Genelecs without a Sub, or lets say it like this: a Sub isnt fully needed with them. With these 8040 only the real deep subbasses are missing, anything else is present and that in a clear and punchy/impulsive responsive way which is in most cases really enough. Since you already got a Sub, ok, then just make sure that the frequency split is in a senseful range. Maybe its 50Hz, 60? 80? What these frequence-range is, maybe it make sense to search for what the subs of Genelec (7040A and upwards) do and what are the recommendations from Genelec for pairing with 8040, could be that there is something in the manuals or mail the service.

Btw: With your setup in the picture, it makes sense to use some foam pads/risers, even if the stands of Genelec are really good, it doesnt cost a lot, and brings a lot of improvement.

it’s discounted once a decade ($189 until June 1st), so i pulled the trigger.

I just got these and plan on reamping some guitars and running things through effects pedals.

Volume knobs are a hard engineering problem, it would seem. After testing the focusrite 16i16 for a while I can’t live with the volume knob. It’s very inconsistent in how it accelerates, especially in the top of the range. I emailed their support a few days ago and haven’t heard back. I don’t think this is something the care to fix, or they would have already, so I’ll just return the unit to the store. Anyone with suggestions for a great ADAT and midi capable audio interface under $1000? The intention is for it to act as a spare and to connect the modular across the room with ADAT but 4+ inputs would be good.

Latest purchase is Serum 2 and plan to make lots of tracks

I saw videos of Serum 2 on Youtube last night. I bought Serum years ago, and just a few days ago upgraded it to the latest version of the original and then played around with it for a while, so kinda weird that Serum 2 is out.

Serum 2 makes the original look like a demo version, and it was already pretty cool (but others had passed it by (Pigments, PhasePlant, etc.). Now, it is so much more versatile. I like that they allow you to upgrade for free, and only ask for a donation. Steve Duda is such a nice guy.

a pair o Adam d3v’s just arrived. updated to os1.7.
from my understanding passive radiators are a bit of a marketing gimmick, n there’s some resonance spikes around 50hz & 200hz according to the waterfall chart.

taking that into consideration & after adjusting for my room they’re very nice indeed. clear & controlled. usb audio. 300 euroblips. my desk/studio is tiny so I’m very happy.

We’ve been fixing our basement for long time now, and today it was finally ready to start using!
New floor (with heating!)
New walls
New standing desk
New second desk
8 electrical outlets
New chair
(still old lamp)

My intention is to no longer have to tear down and pack away my gear when not in use, because of the bigger desk space.

It’s here.

I will surely replace the cheap knobs.

Intentions : Mastering chain

It didn’t ship with the right power cord (boo!). I have some spare one, fortunately.

I’ve been looking at these too. What room adjustments were needed?

just with the 3 sliders at the back. you’ve essentially got 0, - 3, and - 6db bass, mid & high to play with. not the most granular of adjustments but made quite a difference in my room.

Model:Samples. Not really sure what my goal is with it. I bought a Model:Cycles on a similar whim, love it, and ended up getting a Digitone as well. I guess I wanted to see if playing/manipulating samples was something I’d get much inspiration out of.

I learned about the Lindell Audio LiNTEC today and purchased it for my vocal chain. Presently, I have a Warm Audio EQP-WA, but it is a little too dark for my vocals. The LiNTEC is solid-state with transformers and might give my vocals a better sound.

Overall, it is reasonably priced and worth the risk. While they are not my go-to options, I have no regrets with the LiN76 and LiN2A compressors.
