I didn’t have the right adapters to connect the A4, so I sequenced a little 14 step pattern on the Digitone 2 and recorded the output of the lowpass filter directly into my audio interface, no post processing aside from normalizing the recording. I’m really looking forward to exploring further!
my Fenix II finally arrived, after about 14 months of waiting. and it’s absolutely tremendous. basically has everything you could want in a modular (though it’s technically not fully modular, I guess), feature-wise, plus it sounds incredible on top of that.
below these is my Prophet 5, which you can’t see. but that’s fine because you also can’t see the new voice card expansion I just bought and installed in it. because I don’t need more polyphony, but I do need the stacking mode that this now enables.
today i unboxed my new CPM DS-2 and started having a litte bit of mess about at my desk. my boss looks over his glasses at me and asks “is that supposed to sound like a fart”?
I actually got this partially because of wanting to learn modular and I like the idea of Arp 2600 Patchbook, which I think is a brilliant way to learn and experiment from there.
Intentions:
I plan on using it as a tutorial, along with the Patchbook and a few other resources, to get me to a deeper understanding of synthesis. I figure I’ll take some of the patchbook ideas and see if I can recreate similar sounds on other synths so I can learn them as well, in as much as they can given the differences between synths.
On it now, actually. We’ll sit with this setup for a while; feeling pretty inspired by some recent personal events that are making me… moody and mood-swingy.
Hit my vape after a disappointing coffee date and bought a spontaneous consolation prize at Centaur Guitar in Portland. Wasn’t in the market for a reverb, but hey, i’m a good boy, i deserve a little treat. got it for $160 which i guess is half of what it used to sell for so that’s fun. God I love black and gold shit
After a long illness and waiting for it to be built, finally started to learn and explore Ksoloti Gills. My first attempt using it as a reverb/delay box.
A year ago I sold my TI2 Darkstar. I was on a selling spree and justified it because I was freeing myself of all keyboard synths. However, I was literally regretting it on the way to FedEx. I’ve been looking for a desktop TI2 ever since. Most of the ones I’ve found appear to have been ridden pretty hard. Also, has anyone ever noticed on Reverb how little effort people put into descriptions of their gear? Who is going to throw down thousands of dollars on a used synth whose condition is described as “everything works!” Anyway, after scanning Ebay and Reverb for months I found someone in Canada selling what he claimed to be a new TI2 Desktop still in its sealed box. He said he owned another and bought it as a backup since they were discontinued, but then decided after a year that he’d rather have the money. I was dubious because its my nature and the fact that the ad stated “no refund”. But he opened the box to take some photos, and we exchanged a lot of messages, which assuaged my doubt for the most part. After waiting for it to slowly make its way from Ontario to Oregon it finally arrived today! I was still nervous when I opened it but it was as advertised. Beautiful and brand-spanking new. This one is never leaving me.
Obviously, this is a genuine reaction, but it reminded me of this ancient youtube “demo” that I just watched the other day for this super lofi, old school 12-bit DJ loop sampler that someone published in 240p resolution probably 15 years ago.
The demo was filmed with a shaky phone camera using first person filming of someone doing a basic demonstration against the backdrop of a hardwood floor with like, some random junk or shoes or something cluttered around in frame. No talking.
The first comment on the video says: “Dream studio.”
