What's your latest purchase & what are your intentions with it? [pics ftw] (Part 3)

Do keep us posted how you like it!

picked up a used roland verselab mv-1 for a nice price yesterday, rounding out my roland station. intentions are to motivate myself to make more music at home instead of always leaving to make music with portable gear.

A new rhythmic friend…I’m having a blast making sounds of all sorts on this beast. Definitely not just a drum machine!

Some of my recent purchase include the Tascam 32 half-track and 22-2 4-track shown here, alongside a Dust Collector I received from @lampeo. I’ve also made a few additions to my collection of test equipment.

My intentions should be obvious: rockin’ out with my Stockhausen out…

It looks more and more like the secret room of a James Bond villain.
One day Sean Connery will show up, scan the room with a piercing gaze and display a superior smile, at that precise moment, run away.

I do think of it as less of a studio and more of a lair…

Sold my 1010music Bluebox and bought a Focusrite Scarlett 16i16 4th gen.

The Bluebox served me well but I want to multi-track into Ableton.

The 4th gen 16i16 sounds fantastic.

this is a dream setup. beautiful

how do you manage fx send/returns with that Tascam mixer? is it enough aux i/o for your needs?

The Tascam is only being used for the stuff on or next to the table it’s primarily there for the tape machines and musique concrĆØte, though it’s easy enough to bring in signals from the big Synthesizers.com system or the big Moog (not shown) next to it. There also a MacBookAir on a pull-out shelf under the left side of that workbench, and the Tascam is a convenient interface for that specific computer. I have another Tascam for another corner (where I have 2 x ARP 2600s, VCS3, MPC) and there’s a Mackie for a Jaspers stand full of synths. The latter two mixers are only for monitoring. When I want to record to the desktop DAW, I patch into a small collection of Chandler/EMI preamps that are half-normalled to an Apollo.

I wish the Tascams had more Aux outputs, but the sub and CR outs go a ling way to make up for it. Patchbays help. I have some large format mixers in closets (Tascam, Midas, TAC), but they are too big for my room. These Tascam Models are an excellent compromise.

Just got the Ampeg micro cl stack! Running the DN through the aux channel while looping bass lines is tons of fun. Next I’m going to use the OT as a synced looper/fx box and add guitar to the mix. The aux channel doesn’t have much headroom but it’s loud af and gives the DN some nice lofi crunch

I’ve been looking at downsizing my Saffire Pro 40, so I’m considering the 4th gen 16i16.
How are you liking it? I’ve not seen any reviews yet, so real world experience would be appreciated.

It’s very easy to use in terms of both the hardware and the software. Good form-factor for my desk. Very easy to see levels with the LED rings. The Control 2 software works incredibly well on a iPhone or iPad. It’s expendable with ADAT. Headphone amp powers my Neumann NDH30’s just fine.

Focusrite released an update to the hardware today specifically for the 16i16 and the 18i16 but I can’t find the patch notes anywhere.

I based my purchase on the Julian Krause review of the 4i4 4th gen.

Yeah, Julian is a touch dry in his presentation. But his reviews are really good. I watched that when the 4th gen came out originally.

I’m slightly surprised there haven’t been any reviews on the second batch of the bigger 4th gen’s though.
