Yeah, I’m planning to install the drive to my old pc tower since it’s still working great.
I bought a b-stock unit of the line 6 hx one for 295€ from thomann. It just arrived a few days ago and I haven’t even tried all the FX algorithms on it, but it’s definitely a keeper.
I know the hx stomp is probably better value for money as you can use multiple FX simultaneously as opposed to only one FX at a time on the hx one. But I’ve got my “core guitar sound” established with the other pedals on my board and just wanted one additional pedal for the occasional specific FX (sometimes a phaser, a chorus, a delay, or whatever would fit the song I’m working on). The hx one is perfect for that. I had been looking at the strymon multi FX units, but they only cover specific types of FX per pedal - either modulation, delay, or reverb. The hx one offers pretty much everything I’d ever need in terms of modulation, delay, and the occasional special reverb, as well as lots of stuff I’ll probably never use, such as the drives, EQs, compressors, or pitch FX. But I gotta say, pretty much all the the FX I’ve tried so far sound great! I’ve had the strymon volante before, and while the hx one tape delay emulations are not quite on that level, they get about 90% there, which is more than enough for me. Especially for the price and all the additional things the hx one does.
The absolute greatest thing about it is the flux function. It allows to save two states of the currently selected FX and slides between these states with the push of the right foot switch. With adjustable on and off curves that can even be tempo synced. Every parameter of the FX can be fluxed like this simultaneously, e.g. increase the feedback of a delay and decrease the high pass filter on the delay at the same time. It’s almost like a tiny OT on my pedal board and I wish every pedal I have would be able to do that. The chase bliss pedals can kind of do this sort of ramping, but it’s a hassle to set up in comparison to how smoothly the hx one handles it.
Stereo in and out, adjustable for line or instrument signals, midi in and out, usb-c as well, works with a standard 9V power supply, very sturdy metal enclosure, nice OLED screen with adjustable brightness. 128 presets and in addition to that, the factory settings of every of the 200+ FX algorithms can be overwritten, so each time you scroll through the FX list, it adheres to how you prefer that algorithm, which is independent from the 128 presets. Very nice!
My only hardware complaints are that the encoders don’t have enough grip and are a little slippery, and the bypass LEDs are eye-piercingly bright. I’m probably gonna dim them with a sticker or something. But overall I’m very happy with it and can wholeheartedly recommend it if you are looking for a jack of all trades type of pedal.
Edit: And it’s got a built-in tuner! I first thought the tuner was useless, but I realized I was feeding it a warbly signal from my gen loss mkll
I gotta remember to bypass that when tuning.
Please give me one of these for my Minilogue
. Love the part about tuning the wobbly signal, could be a meme!
Yes!! This is awesome man! I have always wanted one but the notorious zip drive issues have kept me away!
My buddy had one for a bit, super interesting palette of effects. A couple users on the Sp-forums were sooo nasty on them, and would talk about a bunch of interesting odd ball ahead of its time features it had. Would love to hear what you make!
That my set up.
It’s a pretty cool setup, basically all you need
Yes, this thing is quite a beast and the effect section is very familiar from another units in the range but this monster has lots of tricks in its sleeve not found in other versions. I’ll try to up my game and release some examples of my (SP) noises. Currently I’m rearranging my setup while I wait my e25 DT to come back from the service.
More OT about the SP-808 effects
I don’t have any first hand experience on other Roland SP samplers but I belive the unique feature in 808 fx section is the ability edit all the parameters of the fx algorithms in order to create your own fx pathces. There is 20 algorithms in the OG firmware and 5 more in the EX update that are used to create 99 factory presets (149 in EX) + another set of slots to save your own patches.
You can freely assing any 6 fx parameters that can be tweaked from 3 onboard knobs (2 pages) or by midi CC. These parameters can be also controlled by onboard step modulator (+ 2 of them by D-beam).
This “modular nature” gives you lots of creativity with the fx section and IMO is very overlooked with these units.

wassup Sleepy!
I have 2 of those as well earlier in the thread, pretty good for how cheap they are.
Best sub-$30 purchase I’ve made in a while.
Intention: well, I’ve already done it. Affix those to the bottom of a 4’ staircase ‘rung’ (hardwood) and get a good desk riser out of it. Works perfectly, though it did make me re-arrange everything (which was the purpose: drum machines to the front, please)
I do have a Mackie Onyx 16 I haven’t even had it out the box it’d be no good for mobile but these little Moukey mixers are fantastic IMO… I’m just messing about with my gear I think i need more leads looks like I’m short

Bought multiple pieces this month, bye money:
Epiphone les paul standard with seymour duncan jazz/jb pickups
Finally had the guts to start learning to play guitar. Very fun and adds a nice contrast to my FM based synths.
Model: cycles
Been wanting one to offload drum duties from
Digitone. Very nice to jam with these two.
SM58 clone
To sing or rap on my songs - or not but at least now it’s an option
Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X
I just had to. I also own DT 770 but these should be an improvement (and semi open). Didnt get to try them out beforehand as none are locally available. Reviews are praising them so I have a good feeling.
Booked a hotel room and bought a ticket for Chez Damier at Open Ground in December.
An allegedly unused Casio MT-45 (we’ll see when it turns up). Intend to sample it and general poor playing.
Damn you, Keen On Keys for your beautifully crafted YouTube channel… this is now my third ‘toy’ keyboard I’ve bought after watching his videos.
Since I’m all synthed up still, and my setup has no need to change any time soon, I ordered another game item. My kids love N64 games, (which we have some ways to play), but this seems like the ultimate way.
YO _wrks!!! I see you finally made it to elektronauts.
How are the elektron’s treating you? Cant wait to hear what you make on them!
I have no idea why I’m reading a manual for a machine I don’t and probably won’t own, but man, manuals used to be good. Haha.
I wish they still did as detailed rundowns of things like effects. Feels like I’m looking at a bit of SP history. Looking forward to hearing the tunes!
lol just buy another two of them then
hyped about this too, but waiting for the transparent green edition to match my childhood n64!
