What's your latest purchase & what are your intentions with it? [pics ftw] (Part 3)

BTW, the Slim21 is in the running for “most couch-friendly” electronic instrument.

It sits very comfortably in the lap; couple with USB PD power (from charger or battery) and a pair of headphones and it’s easy to get lost in the playing.

EDIT: Having access to the EagenMatrix engine in a compact package is also enticing me to consider picking up a Warbl as a complimentary tool to pair with the Slim21. Ed Eagen’s videos are a nice example of what this pairing is capable of…

Just a coincidence but I was just looking at the price list for new Trautoniums. Similar price range, though not quite appealing to the same demographic - more open-ended vs. “nostalgic meets futuristic”

Indeed. In my opinion, they are worth every penny. I’m saving up now to get a Slim to replace my fat old Continuum. I’ll probably land on the middle one since it’s closer to the size of the one I have now.

There’s also the Doepfer Trautonium stuff which is pretty flexible.

This is the video that inspired me to look at the price list. I was just curious how much LudoVic may have paid for his Trautonium(s)

Decided to preorder a deconstruct MINIMAL because it reminds me of the ios app Pure Acid. It arrived yesterday and i’ve been going through the manual while playing with it. The Sequencer is deeper than i thought it would be, with phrase looping, parameter locks, 2 accent types + glide, etc. They did a nice job on the workflow design. Everything is intuitive and i have developed muscle memory in a short amount of time. I’ve never been drawn to any Sonicware products before, but i’m quite pleased with this little guy. It punches well above its weight. Only negatives so far is the 1/8” audio and midi ports. It’s also (unsurprisingly) totally plastic. But it has an ON switch which manufacturers seem to increasingly eschew on low end products, so that’s nice. I would definitely recommend this box in this price category.

My wife decided to get me one of these as a belated birthday gift. I have never played one and will probably suck at it, but I do believe that there is nothing that a good amount of reverb cannot make at least somewhat beautiful.

Also, as a Bowie fan, this is nice memorabilia… even if Stylophone Bowie is not my favorite Bowie!

It’s a wonderful VST, especially as it also comes with Repro-1! So much control.and sonic capability, one of those plugins that makes you question why you’d ever buy a hardware synth again.

Starting a big house project soon (Trex decking and railings) and needed to get a cordless circular saw. Compact and uses the M12 batteries I already have!

My kid said it looks like a child’s toy and wife called it cute. Whatever!

Isn’t your kid like 30 and still living at home? Should have replied “Child’s toy? Well sure, you’re the fucking expert!” or “it might be small, but it’s bigger than your house, fuckwad!” etc…

Btw, you probably shouldn’t call your kid a fuckwad, no matter how annoying they are, but that’s just me man, you probably use up all your niceness on this forum so it’s probably forgivable with time and therapy.

Edit: I withdraw those previous comeback suggestions and respectfully submit: “Last time I used a tool that was too big for the job I got stuck with you, not making that mistake again!”

Ha! Both of them are still home. Little fuckwads!

Cute!

EDIT: I like how all your photos include a White Claw box somewhere in view. They’d feel incomplete without one!

I love that pedal. I modded one I had years ago and I still get random messages about it.

TLDW; if you short the feedback knob out on itself… It removes it from circuit. Meaning feedback goes to full.

That’s what the momentary stomp is doing.

I added a pot on the side that works like a second feedback knob. The momentary switch now uses that instead, so I can set up an infinite trail thing.

That’s awesome!

And right at the moment when you see his face crumple as his mind involuntarily puts images to your words of wisdom, hit him with: ”yep…. I learned that the hard way!”

Toneverk.

I have to downsize the setup for a while to pay off some bills. Is what it is. I’m swapping a few other items I have for a Tonverk that will serve as the hub of my music making for a bit, alongside one synth (TEO) and a guitar + bass. That’s a really damn powerful yet concise setup and I’m stoked.

I don’t mean to talk about the Toneverk like it’s a consolation prize. This is already an incredible setup and more than anyone needs. I used a Toneverk for a short while at launch and it was rad. It’s only gotten better since then. I’m excited to get into it again.

I’m selling an OPXY, Perkons and Hydrasynth. I’m trying not to directly to compare the Toneverk to any of these but effectively it will cover many of the same bases for me in the realm of:

  • vibey drum sequencing and glitch experimentation.
  • repository for random recordings of my other gear and whatever else
  • wavetable and granular sample based synth sounds
  • portable enough to bring to a friend’s house, jam on the couch or bring on a vacation or work trip.

Very excited to spend some time with a more focused setup and see where it takes me.
