What's your latest purchase & what are your intentions with it? [pics ftw] (Part 3)

How are you liking it compared to the Kijimi?

I have a bunch of ancient thick (“high end”) RCA cables from RS that are still good. Keeping them despite an absence of any RCA gear in case I get an RCA mixer or something.

I wish I had picked up the colorful MIDI cables.

Found a used one in the wild for a Good price. So naturally I snatched it.

Intentions: trying to make a drum machine out of it… currently failing

clearly, you should pick up a Radio Shack Electronic Reverb to go with them!

connections are RCA only. and it sounds way better than you’d think.

The xerxes? They are both really good, sound completely different. The kijimi modulation capabilities are great and you can get some really experimental things happening. The xerxes filter is a little more colorful in my opinion, guess that’s a given considering it’s switchable.

I miss that one dearly!

Maybe this is frowned upon here to a degree but I’ve bought some simple gear to help me lower the friction around making YouTube videos for topics I’m passionate about. I often feel like it’s too much hassle and messy to bring out the camera and mic etc, so now I made a effort to make the setup a bit more permanent.

So I got a camera stand, a mic arm and a few led lights.

The idea is that with a more permanent setup that doesn’t force me to balance tripods all over the desktop, I hope to publish some of the videos that I’ve been sitting on for quite a while now (MPC Live 2 vs Push 3 Standalone, Polyend Tracker+ vs Tracker Mini, etc) on the channel. And of course all the jams in between these other forms of content will also be easier to record now.

I hope you video recorded that undressing of the screen.

I’m actually a little blown away by how good this thing sounds, especially with some subtle sprinkling of a Midiverb2. Not bad for $340.
This plus the Toraz AS-1, makes for a nice lead/pad/bass combo.

This was my first reverb unit. I miss Radio Shack / Tandy. :grinning:

this arrives today / time to get my soldering iron out.

it’ll replace my noodlebox which i haven’t really jived with since i bought it. all of my “minor” sequencers (e.g. t1, carbon, ndlr) feed into both a mm and ot.

hoping to also use the loopa as a more portable /conventional sequencer away from the studio. we’ll see how it works out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Happy with this - got a decent price and seems to be all working as expected.

Make beats is the intention, without a touch screen in sight…

A Stam SA-76ADG 1176 type compressor and an XLR patchbay for the preamp rack.:+1:t3:

Intentions: to compress bass, guitar, vox, and percussion on the way into Ableton.

Definitely interested in seeing what you do with this. Have yet to see someone make use of it in a way that justifies the misguided GAS I had for it before it was made available to the public

I don’t know if it’s the wavefolder or the gain staging/overdrive, but I have been obsessed with the tone from the qun’s synth engine since I first heard it
The Missing Reels demo track still blows me away:

I don’t know what keeps holding me back from buying it. I think I feel like the complicated structure and form factor would prevent me from integrating it into my existing setup practically, but it would still be very fun and powerful as a looper/granualr tool, synth away from home

SQ-80

8 bit grit with analog sheen

One of the best synths I have heard in my life. Such a satisfying sound. The waves sound organic and dirty through the filter, stacking three waves with all of the available modulation, mixing 3 bandpassed formant waves with AM ring mod between 1 and 2, using sampled transients like pick scrapes and bows for “crosswave” synthesis. And the sequencer, which records the poly aftertouch, is surprisingly very deep. It can sequence 8 midi or audio tracks. I like to use it as a kind of complex midi looper. Did not expect to like this as much as I do

And a DD4 to run it through for even more gritty dusty glitchloops. Also an amazing character and really fun looping effect

Ive already steered in territory rarely seen with this device. My two cents so far, the granular engine is really boring m, the color engine is awesome!

Wow! That sounds so crispy

Most people seem to just use the resonator. Which is great, but I feel like the dt2 comb filter is satisfying enough in that department.

Great work

Updated my Magix Samplitude Pro X Suite software from version 3 to 8. Samplitude was my go-to DAW for several years before switching primarily to Presonus Studio One.

Overall, this is a nostalgic purchase at best, but I do plan to at least mix a few tracks with it for fun.

Finally found one nearby for a decent price. I was leery of having one sent by mail.

My intentions are to make a little dawless setup with my DT2 & ST and make some trancey techno.

I want to say that’s me done for GAS for a while but I may still have to get a Hapax
