To my eyes one of the most attractive synths from the last 5 years. My intentions were to make less complicated compositions after spending so much time with elektron sequencers. However, im finding this little sequencer quite capable. Now my intentions are to explore and try to push it outside the Roland sound.
I bought some drum mics. FINALLY.
Now I need to treat my room because there’s way too many reflections. I also need a new interface because my 10 year old 6i6 randomly cuts off and doesn’t have enough inputs with pre-amps. Would love to upgrade to a 18i20. I’ve spent way too much lately, so should probably chill for now. Or at least until my wife’s birthday is over ![]()
(I am planning to take her to Okinawa, so I don’t spend all my money on me!)
Edit: Geewhiz, didn’t post pics or intention…
Intention: Record my drum progress. Stream my experiments? (I do have OBS set up with everything.)
also picked these up in the last few weeks. ms-20 was love instantly. lxr is also a winner, very performative and sounds great. always wanted a machinedrum, but this will keep my wallet safe for a long while ![]()
Sold a bunch of gear I wasn’t using to get something I reckon I will use (at least for a few months before ADHD strikes). OP-1F duly arrived in the house today. And it just…very nice. Certainly more robust feeling than the original OP-1 which has been sitting on a shelf for ever and I think I can now safely sell.
Initial noodling done, I get the complaints of it all feeling a bit sterile - the synths are what they are I guess. And the effects continue to be at best only so-so. And the sequencers are exactly what they are too, a bit clunky and occasionally annoying. And perhaps it’s missing something of that lofi grit of the OG. But once I’d loaded on a few mellotron samples (the OP-1 is the best Mellotron emulator out there I’ve always thought, and the F is just the same) I was straight back into the happy space I remembered from when I used to mess around with the OG all the time.
Like being reunited with an old friend, albeit a shinier, better dressed version of the one you left behind at college.
Edit: the synths are fine btw. Just got to get under the hood and mangle them a bit. Some nice new toys there to play with. Liking tweaking the filter on the Dimension synth very much ![]()
I’ve always wondered, are the knobs on the field clicky like on the OG?
Yes they are. Almost exactly the same I reckon. It doesn’t bother me - it adds to the OP1-ness of it.
I also liked the clicky knobs when I had the OP-1. Of course I prefer smooth on most everything else, but aesthetically it made sense there and felt more tactile in my mind.
Those seem like a match made in heaven! I already own more monos than I need, but every time I see an MS-20 it sends me down a spiral of wanting one
Malcolm Toft MicMix mic preamp and summing mixer. It’s tied to the Toft Equate 8 channel EQ. I have a semi portable Toft recording rig I can take with me. I’ve been tracking my SPD SX Pro with it to get the kicks and snares to have some nice punch. If you’re just using minimal EQ boost / gain you will get a very nice hi-fi sheen to your sound. If you boost extreme amounts you can boom those kicks and destroy snares.
Demo 1: MicMix only. Clean gain. Close to 0dB but I backed off to around 6dB.
Demo 2: MicMix + Equate with about 5dB boost on the low EQ knob
Demo 3: MicMix + Equate. 7dB boost of low knob. 3/4 dB boost on low mid knob at around 200hz
To whom it may concern: If you want to post pics while the site thing is broken, you have to link from photohosting or other offsite upload by cut and pasting the image link into your post.
You can do this from a PC by right clicking the image and choosing copy image link, or you can do this from a mobile by holding down on the image then choosing open in new tab, then copy that URL into your post.
This also works on images from google or uploaded on other websites / forums. As long as it’s already hosted somewhere, you can copy the link.
Please do NOT do this.
Why?
Link rot.
Go to any forum and scroll back to posts from a few years back. Full of dead links.
Just wait for the mods to fix whatever broke. Or if you must post pictures this weekend please commit to replacing them with elektronauts-hoasted versions as soon as everything is working once again.
Polyend Tracker Mini. Purpose? Play and write on the go. I need to get out of the house! LOL
Couch composition tools? Noodling? Travel? They go nice together? I’d been wanting the Play+ since before getting the Ableton Move, then got the Move, forgot about the Play+, then Polyend offered deep discounts on both, so why not?
Roland Verselab.
Delayed delivery because of weather.
Am now regretting the purchase. lol
Worst case, learn to use it and/or use it as a sound module with the MPC One.
My original intention was to utilize its more linear song mode to crank out some crappy full songs. As I tend to have a bunch of unfinished parts and no songs.
Torso S-4. I know there’s been a lot of bad talk about poor firmware architecture and the occasional hardware issues with the USB-C and encoders, but this is a very different box from anything else that I’ve ever owned. The sounds it can make is unlike any other groove boxes or samplers, and the bugs have been getting squashed, so I’m pretty confident it will fully live up to its potential. Besides the OP-XY, this is one of the few new devices that is truly unique.
