What's your latest purchase & what are your intentions with it? [pics ftw] (Part 2)

That looks great! Might grab one for OT & DN - are there different models, or accessories needed to accommodate your duo?

nothing else needed. the width is widely adjustable so they’ll accommodate most things (Digis, OT, TD-3, Boutiques, Nymphes etc). they make a three-tier version as well.

Update on the Unit4 wireless studio monitors:

aiaiai was amazing to work with to get things straightened out. I’m happy. Actually, super happy with the Unit 4s. I’m impressed by the clarity and response. Bass is balanced and round. Highs are crisp. I’ve used them with Bluetooth, direct input, and W+ while making music and connected to a pre-amp and turntable. I love being able to freely position them so easily from my computer to my music area and then over to stands by my couch in the studio. Highly recommend them. Happy to answer questions or do specific testing for ya.

How has the learning curve on this been? Is this your first mpc? Thoughts on speaker and battery life?

It has been completely manageable. It is a popular platform with many many workflow examples on YouTube etc. I recommend Tefty (from Tefty Music Tech and Tefty and Meems) in particular. Akai have training videos which are okay. It is not that different from more traditional DAWs like Ableton. However you need to accept the workflow for what it is. Also note that MPC Beats is free to try. It gives you a rough idea of the workflow on computer.

I use the platform more like an arranger workstation/DAW-in-a-box than a sampler to chop beats.

No and yes. I bought an MPC Studio 2 a few months earlier to try out the workflow - it comes with the full MPC software and is quite affordable. After that I bought Jura, Fabric XL and Air Flavor Pro (all can be used as VSTs so I wasn’t locked to the platform). Those plugins really elevate the platform IMO.

I then decided I wanted to save up for an MPC Live 2, and got it a bit earlier than planned due to a good Holiday Sale price. My reasoning was the mobility, speakers, and the ability to arrange and mix full tracks.

The speakers are plenty loud, enjoyable, and very usable. I have made full beats on them and been happy with all the sounds - though I wouldn’t final mix on them of course. Sometimes the speakers have been the difference between me wanting to turn it on rather than do something else. Headphones can be fatiguing for me.

The battery lasts at least a few hours which is plenty for me. I usually only make music for a couple of hours at a time. I think the lowest it has got is 50%.

Also shout out to the SSD slot and the touchscreen which is at least as good as my phone and ipad. Maybe they improved it on later models? The touchscreen is totally fine!

While I am still in the honeymoon period (only had it two weeks), I am really enjoying the experience. The machine and the workflow have been good to me.

Not really a purchase as such but I recently swapped my Virus Ti2 desktop for… a Ti2 Polar!

I intend to use it for most of my synth needs as well as my main keyboard - did mean downsizing from my larger keyboard controller, but it feels so damn good to play it’s a concession I’m happy to make.

I also like to just look at it

A few years ago I almost bought a 202 but I hesitated for too long and it was a smart guy who bought it. If I had one, I would have had someone install the tubutec mod, I wouldn’t dare put a synth, a screwdriver and myself in the same room.

to be fair… that’s a great album. I remember buying the CD while on a high school trip to Columbus in 1995.
