I’d be interested to see how they set that book up for people who have short attention spans. Are the chapters a paragraph long.
Naturally, I’m speaking from my own experiences with scientific readings.

Where did you pick this is up from?
Muff Wiggler
was just thinkin the same. I was like I’d love to have read that but reading it might be a bit tricky
ESI MIDIMATE eX & Apple CCK (powered).
So I can use PureData on iOS (PdParty), as well as Lemur, to MIDIfy everything around me.
It’s built up well for me! Many smallish chapters instead of endless long ones. Plus sub-chapters/paragraphs every few pages. And quite often information structured into lists of small entries / bulletpoints. It seems they know what they’re dealing with :))
Plus because there’s so many things written that you recognize yourself in all the time, it’s easier to keep your attention with it anyways.
But I’ll say that I’m not the worst reader, attention wise, as long as I’m interested in something and it’s written compellingly then I can enjoy a read every now and then (although interrupted every 12 minutes by making tea or anything lol). So it might be different for someone else who struggles with focussing on reading more.
Anyways, I’d give it a go - even if it’s just a chapter/paragraph every now and then. After having read the first two chapters I think it’s really nice, a feast of recognition, and seems to be backed up by proper academic expertise (plus both authors are psychiatrists and háve ADHD:), not just some self-help money grabbing author. Thanks for who suggested it - and to other’s I’d say give it a go!
Have you received yours?
I just took another look and discovered that there was an update with a new preset that kills reverb, using the rest of the circuit for character. Have you tried it? Care to offer a review?
My GAS is about to go BAM.
Most of the time I buy books but instead of reading them I’ll watch a few lectures online by the writer.
Please keep us updated on this one. Absolutely love your project!
For those who are interested, the author understands this problem and has a series of short videos for those of us with attention span problems…
Ned Talks - Dr. Hallowell (this link won’t preview for some reason)
That reminds me of a Civil War class I took in college. The teacher was a brand new ex-TA recruit and a little slow to go. We had five different assigned books, and it seemed all I did was read the same thing over and over, just in different writing styles. Someone randomly gifted me Ken Burns the Civil War, and as I watched it I realized that it was really thorough. In fact all the previous test questions had been covered by the narrator and guest. It was at that point I said screw reading and just watched the Ken Burns documentary. Got an A in the class.
very interesting. curious how many people do this…? I did this with my OT for quite a while, actually. I barely used the internal sound engine at all; just the external midi sequencing. I have since righted the ship.
btw, this reminds me of reading several years ago an interview with Gold Panda after he’d released “Lucky Shiner.” IIRC he said that all the samples were in Ableton, but he sequenced them with the MPC 1000. I thought that was just so weird. ![]()
The MPC sequencer is fantastic, in a different way to the OT.
Add as many tracks as you like to sequences of whatever length you like and overdub to your hearts content.
One day maybe I’ll have the brain power to cope with both the 2500 and the OT on the table at the same time. Hasn’t;t happened yet though
What are you initial impressions with this one? I got offered one in a trade and it looks very interesting.
I thought it was broken at first
seriously, I did. but it’s because a handful of functions are only accessible via midi and track one was on repeat and I couldn’t turn it off until I set up midi cc’s and adjusted it. so I think it’s worthwhile to have something you can send it midi cc’s with to adjust some of the settings. an OT will be fine. or a DAW, obviously. I’ve had the Syncussion (clone) before and still have the Vermona DRM1. it’s similar to these in spirit. it’s more open than the DRM1, where the machines are very focused on specific sounds. closer to the Syncussion overall, but useful for more than just zip zap sounds. I actually really like the HH and noise sounds (which are both digital, btw). more than I like the DRM1’s HH’s, in fact. it’s quite an inspiring little box so far. build is solid. trigger buttons feel great (similar quality to Elektron buttons) and knobs don’t wobble at all. size length/width is exactly that of M:C/M:S. I was expecting to be less impressed than I am so far (I tired of the Syncussion quickly). would recommend at least spending time with one if you can. I think they’ve been out of production for a bit (possibly because of Covid-related part shortages) so you should be able to flip it easily if it’s not your thing.
I think the best approach is to put them both on the table, then just ignore the MPC entirely and use the OT, as god intended.
like this guy:
Haha sage advice!! Actually that’s pretty much what happens (or the other way round) when I have had them both on the table. I know other people integrate them but damned if I can.
It reminds me a lot of the DRM1, which I’ve always wanted to try out. The drone mode looks neat also, and some of the bass sounds I’ve heard are incredible.
Thanks for the write up. I think I’ll take a shot on it, as I just want something fun and immediate right now. I’ve been trying to a DFAM, but maybe this can fill the void for a bit.
I’ll buy your blue one. DM me.
