Rodec Restyler off Ebay for £100. The guy bought it from new thinking it was a mixer! Bizarre.
Dx7 for £35. EBay again. This time a guy listed it as “not working/ for parts” I contacted him and he said it never held a stable note thus useless for his playing. Got it home, tinkered with Aftertouch setting and hey presto!! Good as new!
But the best for me has to be this one… At a mate’s flat in London, heard an almighty domestic going on downstairs between a bloke and women. The bloke was tying to force his way into the flat, f-ING and jeffing and calling her all the names under the sun in a very threatening manner.
Anyway, I went down to see if she was alright, and got loads of grief of the fella. He was a pretty nasty piece of work but we escorted him off the premises in a polite but firm manner.
The girl was really shaken up but appreciated our help and invited us in for a beer. All her possessions were packed and ready to move the following morning due to this abusive geezer’s constant threats and harassment. She seemed really sweet and explained it had been a short-lived relationship with him as she realised early doors he was a total nutter.
I noticed the unmistakable end cheek of a Moog sticking out of a blanket in a pile of stuff and asked her if she played. she said no, it was this bloke’s and she’d told him she’d got rid of his stuff.
Had a quick look. Little Phatty Stage ii. “How much do you want for it?” I ask. “Just have it. Saves me having to move it and a thank you for getting rid of him … and i’ve got a couple of other things. Don’t know what they are but you might?” Pulse 2 and a Minitaur!!! BOOM…
I told her she’s probably looking at a nearly grands worth of gear there but she didn’t care!
HELL HATH NO FURY LIKE A WOMAN SCORNED. I reckon there was a little bit of karmic justice there though as the bloke was a total douche!

I thought I did my greatest deal 2 weeks ago, buying a RYTM on ebay for 800 Euros. Now I have to try to accept that somebody screwed me for the first time.

About 12 years ago I got a brand new Nord Modular G2 for $1500 because the guy who originally bought it decided a wek later that he wanted a Moog Voyager instead.

Went to buy an ensoniq mirage for $60 on a craiglist deal (already pretty cheap)… After chatting up the guy he says he has another keyboard in the garage if i wanted it. Its an upper middle class dude in the burbs that probably hasn’t played either thing in a long time. We go in the garage and he’s got a dusty but great condition Juno 6 and says I’ll throw it in for another $20. I felt guilty… But not that guilty.

one time I found a vintage electro-harmonix muff fuzz crying tone fuzz-wah in half working condition at a garage sale for $20 and then sold it 3 days later for about 200 bucks. looks like it’s worth approximately double that amount now, so it’s hard to say if I made the right decision, but at the time it seemed like a pretty big come up.

This one. It was even cheaper when it was Ableton 10. I think 600 euros or something like that. I bought it pre-covid, 2018-2019-ish just to get Suite.
Basically, you buy the bundle, keep the license, sell the boring Push toy for almost the same price. In the end Live Suite becomes almost free. There were even used bundles online for 500-ish that were sold actually with the license. 
It’s gone now though, because there’s the new Push.

Boss PC-2 percussion synth from a secondhand shop (long since gone) in the city of Bath, circa 1987/88. The guy in the shop thought it was a guitar fx pedal which he couldn’t get working.
