16 ins and outs (especially stereo ones, so double) would be more than a little pricy, that many high quality ADC and DAC channels don’t come cheap. I think they could do a lot with like 2-4 stereo pairs with mix bus functionality.
I was thinking double what the OT currently has (so 8 mono in / 8 mono out), and entirely routable to be able to have for instance 4 stereo / 8 mono instruments in and tracks out, or 4 stereo / 8 mono effects loops, or any imaginable combination in between. All routable from any of the 16 tracks with a new effects loop “machine”.
I wonder what a small box take on the OT would look like. I think it would kind of make sense to have more inputs but fewer tracks. So like 4 stereo pairs (8 inputs) for 4 tracks so you can plug in your DT, DN, ST, and something else and then just a stereo output.
And then each track has an already configured looper and some performance effects along with some kind of scene and crossfader action. Something like the performance fx mixing setup that EZbot uses but preconfigured without all of the OT’s complexity. And then a master track with analog heat style effects and a master recorder that can record a stereo mix for long periods of time, like a whole live set.
Basically focusing on the mixer/looper aspects of the OT and not so much the sampling drum machine aspect which the DT already covers.
I would love something like that. And I think it would sell too.
I really wish you could send lfos to the Euclidean sequencer. It would really make that feature more exciting to me
I don’t think it needs that much, and I remain perplexed at how they put the OT Mk2 out with some new cosmetics but zero new functionality.
- SD/USB storage instead of CF (not that I hate the CF but it is a dead format)
- Overbridge, 8 stereo outs is kinda work but USB-C can handle 32 audio channels
- Some new effects and/or more FX slots, eg 3/4 rather than 2 or at least dedicated EQ/limiter per channel
- Maybe better internal routing/mixing options, I would also like 24 bit mixing
- A better or at least larger screen (heresy I know)
- 8 or 10 knobs per page rather than the OT’s 6. I find the 8 on the AR a nice balance between speed and flexbility
- A few global LFOs
- ctrl-all or performance macros like the A4
- More modulation destinations for the LFOs
- Song mode that records your pattern and mute changes
These are all work obviously but they’re incremental improvements rather than fundamental reorganization.
half of these would require significant rewrites of code.
Well yes, adding new features (or porting them from other devices) involves effort. But if you are launching a new version of a flagship product that can sell for another 10 years then people will want to see some new capabilities.
Anyone else checking in here every 15mins this morning?
I’m here for the thread close at 9999
I think there is nothing to see for a longer time.
Yes, huffin the copium lmao
With any new announcement comes also a big burden of uncertainty about supply chain and pricing. It could be a reason many hardware developers might to hold on announcing anything new. No one really knows what the backslash will be. I guess in the next month or two it will be much clearer as stocked goods will run out and reality kicks in.
Still no countdown timer on elektron site
It’s almost as if nothing is happening
Introducing CableWerk:
New add-on compatible with all elektron devices but designed specifically for OG Digis. enabling among others:
- Adds between 4 (DN) and 8 (DT) Free multi-track or multi-destination LFOs. A real turbo charged 3rd-throught-8th LFO
- Enables Euclidean, and a new “multi-track” euclidean mode.
- Everybody gets a FX track with sequencing and PLocking, or two, or as many FX tracks as you need.
- Macro controls, up to 64 (DT) or up o 32 (DN)
- 4 (DN) or 8 (DT) control all groups, that can also be plocked!
Insane amount of power!!!
Follow up in the CableWerk thread!
Saves me more money for erica stuff
I don’t know what’s next for Elektron except
1.) there will never be another OT
2.) DT (any incarnation) will never get manual slicing
