lol I’ve ben to a jazz club on mushrooms, and its name was Yoshi’s (Oakland CA)
My favorite show of all time. The whole vibe of this fever dream of a show reminds me of growing up in middle America in the 90’s.
I recently heard this after seeing the 7” in Shepard Fairey‘s record collection on an old YouTube video. Mashup from 1978. Works surprisingly well
Yoshi’s is great, you must have zoned out staring at the expensive horns for ages.
I visited this year with an engineer buddy who spent half the time talking jazz rarities with the DJ, the other half talking shit about the very expensive speaker system (mostly the placement and how they were installed for more visual effect, less concern for sound reinforcement.)
Still a good time and would recommend!
I saw Joshua Redman play with Christian McBride… top 5 musical moment of my life. Absolute Legends!
I feel like the House theme music matched the vibe of the show pretty well. And very cool that it was a Massive Attack tune.
The funny pick will be It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. I think it fits pretty well, and I just can’t imagine the show without it.
Also, I think the OP’s pick is great, especially the CSI:Miami theme. Many years ago, a friend and I would turn it on just to catch the opening few minutes of the show, then see David Caruso taking his sunglasses off and delivering the big line, and then the big “YEEEAAAHHH!” followed by “We Don’t Get Fooled Again!!!” We never really watched the rest of the show, it just the first 5 minutes that was most captivating.
